I have had this effect for quite a long time. I performed the effect for a publicity photo and it looked great.
Although it's a neat pyro effect, I've always had some problems with it. 1. I don't know of many practical uses for it aside from publicity photo's etc. The Late Mr. Brazil used to use it for a rose production in his act (there's a clip of it in his watch steal video). I typically just open with it lit and throw a fireball. I suppose it could also be interesting in conjunction with a dove production, etc. Suggestions? 2. It's difficult to find the mini tanks of fuel for this. I've ended up using the large (longer) butane tanks which seem to put wear on the hand dragon. 3. The plastic tubing always slips off of the dragon and the metal hand unit which seems dangerous. 4. As it is a retracting device. You can't really perform the effect unless you do it at the very beginning of your act (with the hand unit in place). 5. Once you're finished with the effect...you have this large, constricting unit on your person. It makes it difficult to finish your show unless you take your jacket off. As I said earlier, you really need to use it at the beginning of your act. Well, I need my jacket on for the first 15 minutes of my act. I know this seems like a lot of problems. Honestly, I think Chappy invented a fabulous effect when he invented this and mean him no disrespect...wherever he may be now. I want to keep this effect in my act...perhaps even purchase a new unit or one like it. If anyone out there performs this effect (or something similar) your suggestions would be appreciated. Ryan |

Have you taken a look at Jim Pace's Invisotorch?

I watched Chappy perform the Hand Dragon at The Ultimate Close up Competition in Las Vegas. I traded something that he liked of mine for his Hand Dragon. I felt the same way as Magicguy. Through this inspiration I created the Inviso Torch, the same effect with a different design without the bulk.
John Kennedy's Flame Thrower Match was probably the inspiration for Chappy's creation. If anyone would like one you can buy them from White Rabbit Magic Company. The web site is above Jim

What's the hand dragon? Is it like a fire thing that comes from your hand? That would be cool

Nappa, just go to Jim Pace's White Rabbit Magic and get the Phoenix.
You are empty, throw a nice flame, and then you are clean. Jim has a nice little demo Video on his site. http://www.whiterabbitmagic.com/invisotorch.MPG I recently stoppped in to a magic shop that I get to about once a month, and he thanked me for telling him about the Phoenix. He nows carries them and has already sold a bunch. It is that good, and the price is cheap! BroDavid
