Hello all,
I do not perform much "bizarre" magic, but do have a Stewart James/Busby Sefalaljia cabinet that we are routining for our show. For those not familiar, it is a small cabinet about the size of a shoe box in which a number of "spooky" effects happen from ropes and rings linking to a small football being kicked out of the cabinet to an Astro ball type effect where a signed dollar moves under a drinking glass. Because of the routine and the prop itself, there are many other effects that could be worked into the routine. However, since this is not my specialty area of magic, I am not that familiar with the various small props that do these kinds of things. To fit the routine, the items would need to be everyday objects. And the trick would need to be somewhat self contained, so it could be done in the middle of other effects in the box. I have heard of both old and new effects where matchboxes crawl, pencils roll off the mouth of a glass, bottles and blocks of wood tip over, etc., but do not know what props are the strongest effect and have a practical method for this routine. Does anyone have any suggestions? |

Try getting the booklet "Miniature Haunted House" by The Great Leon (www.magicinc.com) it only costs $7.50 and shows how all the effects in your post above and many more can be incorporated into a spirit cabinet type effect.
He used a dolls house for the effects but you could adapt it to suit a box/cabinet. I am a collector and managed to get my hands on a "Sheishin No Cabinet" from Collectors Workshop a while back. You can check it out on the Viking magic website (they are usually sold out though). George Robinson adapted the whole spirit cabinet to an oriental theme with astro ball, ring through brass rod and many others. Simon If you can find one its well worth the money. |
