Hi Nicholas,
Well I must admit I'm green with envy as it sounds like a fun gig. I was feeling blue and saw red, but now that I've put on my rose colored glasses, I'm tickled pink! In fact I'd wear my big glasses when the song Yellow Brick Road played. :O) Okay I sound like I'm brown nosing so I'll stop but couldn't help using colorful language. :O) Seems like you have a quite a list there Niclolas, but others came to mind Purple People Eater, Green Seeves (sp?) and Yellow Submarine. (I won a silly contest on a cruise ship once by being able to name the most "colorful songs".) I can see you using a change bag for some items - Whiter Shade of Pale and Paint it Black you can possibly use silks or an effect with a cup/slush/powdered milk and white silk. Little Ray of Sunshine you can possibly use appearing candle or some form of clear d'lite depending on where you are peforming it. From Little Things Big Things Grow - Gene Anderson of Tear and Restore Newspaper fame has an awesome effect where a newspaper grows to a huge 6 ft tree.If you're interested in the routine I'll see if I can dig up which DVD it's on and pass along the name. Another thought is, if it's a flower festival would be funny to encorporate an appearing shovel at some point perhaps? It sounds like a fun gig let us know how it goes. Best Wishes! Chrystal |

Little Ray of Sunshine - A Pizza Sliding Die Box re-decorated to look like the sun (There also used to be an effect on the market called "The Sun & Clouds" if I'm not mistaken and the sliding box part of it was decorated as clouds...)
Mellow Yellow - Airborne glass using a "Mellow Yello" brand soft drink beverage bottle or can... I See Red - niffon tube in which red liquid is poured into one side and a dry red silk is produced from the other... Strawberry Fields - sponge ball routine in which the sponges have been shaved down and made to look like strawberries... Brown Sugar - a Salt Pour, but done with brown sugar... From Little Things Big Things Grow - Appearing ten foot pole... Fields of Gold - A ring and rope routine. Yellow cord, gold 3" to 4" ring... Yellow Brick Road - I'm thinking silk effect here... Crystal Tube perhaps?... Blue Suede Shoes - Wiz Cote comes to mind... That's all I've got brother! Hope there's something usable there for you! Lyndel |

I"m an Elvis fan, and I think I could probably do a pretty good multiplying ball routine to Blue Suede Shoes. You could get into it by the following (it starts slow and gets faster);
Well it's a one for the money (produce a ball)... Two for the show (drop it so it bounces and lands in left hand, or opposit hand you are using, as the next part starts)... Three to get ready (place it between first two fingers) Now go cat go! (start to finger roll and the jazzy moves) It is a fast pass song, so you can have a lot of fun with it. Hope I got all the lyrics right. Gideon
You know you are a magician when you have boxes full of lecture notes you have never read, but still are excited about going out and buying more.

Nicholas: This sounds like a great and very fun idea and gig for you. It also allows you to really think creatively and to give the client even more then what they might be expecting. In this fashion you are finding better solutions that will greatly benefit your client in so many ways.
here are some ideas you may want to consider based upon the songs that you have mentioned. But first, are you going to be doing family-style shows at the event? Kids shows? Adult shows? Thiscertainly will effect what presentations and effects you perform to these songs. From Little Things Big Things Grow - Production of festhered flowers from a silk ending in one flower in a Botania that just does not seem to be gorwing for you until the end when BAM the botania is used to change the single flower into a huge bush. Am I not Pretty Enough - could be a very comical routine by using a Axtell Drawing Board and doing a portrait that comes to life and sings with you or introduces you as the magician for the start of the show. You could also do Sammy Smith's SketchPad (think it is called that) That is where you make a prediction and the audience helps you pick a hat and then glasses or eyes and finally a mouth. No matter how funny the drawing looks, it matches your prediction exactly. Blue Suede Shoes - Billard ball routine where in the ball always changes color to blue everytime it appears in the song. You get annoyed each time cause it is messing you up so you always vanish it and fight it. In the end you decide oh what the heck and you give in until all the balls turn to blue. Rock Explosion - A sponge ball routines done with sponge rocks. Spiks and Specs could possbly go well with Measle Bag or maybe even doing What's Next. Hope these help. Kyle

Get Celebritie.
Adapt it with a floral print tie, and use "Build Me Up, Buttercup". You can do either the pick a card trick or have the tie pick a flower from a bouquet. S. Patrick |

I've decided to tie the show around the fact that the event though they were hiring a MUSICIAN not a MAGICIAN.
Opening - Using a silver sceptre as a conductor's baton I conduct a version of Spics and Specks but the baton gets out of control I admit I don't know anything about music and say that that I'll have to perform the songs MAGICALLY instead! I flip open the "song book" and perform a trick for the songs. FIELDS OF GOLD - The show is outside in a field. I borrow a ring...and throw it in the field! FROM LITTLE THINGS BIG THINGS GROW - (three tiny wands grow to three big wands) LITTLE RAY OF SUNSHINE - I dress a little girl as a ray of sunshine and make her beam on some seeds, making them grow! I SEE RED - The person's whose ring I lost is very angry. So I give her the rose that has been on my table the whole time...with her ring tied to it! I realise that I have too many songs to go so I produce my juke box which is empty. I produce.... a packet of BROWN SUGAR some STRAWBERRIES a YELLOW BRICK a BLUE SEUDE SHOE Silks of some of the colours Flowers for my hair and a cute bunny rabbit! (AM I NOT PRETTY ENOUGH is from an ad for the (R)SPCA!) |

If you only use a small portion of some songs, you can use an adaption of Dan Garrett's "Over the Rainbow", it would be perfect. He does the routine with songs like "That old black magic". "Follow the yellow brick road", and ended with "Over the Rainbow". Just make the appropriate song changes.
From Little things big things grow - Hum, use Goshman's Ding Dong effect? |

For Blue Suede Shoes I would do a Zombie effect with the blue suede shoes I was wearing.
