Try Duane Laflin's silk fountain. It's very pretty and inexpensive for the effect. I'm not familiar with the Jay Scott Berry effect. I have heard a lot of good about it though.

It would seem like by now (44 years of this stuff) I could describe a bad silk fountain. But they are all good. Some are outstandingly good.
The greatest change I have seen in the last 25 years is the use of diamond cut silks to increase the number of silks and variety of colors in the fountain. The fad is back on. An advantage of the diamond cuts is that because of the cheaper and heavier serger hems on them, the edges are much denser than the centers and fall to the outside more predictably with less of a “colored cabbage look” than full silk squares initially present. However, the ultimate bulk produced is noticeably less. It's a trade off. What I do see as a performance difference between beginning and the more seasoned performers is that as a magician matures he/she is more likely to use body or table loads in combination with the initial silk fountain. Thus, the fountain is just an early step in the routine instead of the whole routine. Once the magician gets comfortable using silk fountains, the routines can get much more complex and multiple silk fountains in increasing sizes can be added to the routine. This allows even larger productions to follow with plenty of adequate cover. The other major differences are related to successful time in magic. One is the fact that most of the truly professional magicians I know do not use commercially produced silk fountains. Once the style and design preferred by that performer are identified, it’s easy enough to make them at home. That leads to the second difference. More different and appropriate color combinations and fountain sizes are possible once the magician takes control by constructing his own silk fountains. It gets to be as simple as choosing your force card. Buying a commercially produced silk fountain is not a bad investment. It is a matter of getting started, getting started. They are a fantastic tool for whatever follows. Audiences love them. In a different color combination, they become a different trick! Go for it! Bob Magic By Sander |

I bought the fountain of silks to dove from Dazzling Magic a few weeks ago. The colors really stand out bright and the silks are very high quality. The dove load and release is really smooth. If not using a dove, anything else such as spring flowers can be used in its place.

I'm glad you liked Dazzling Magic's silk fountain, Mike. I use it to produce an appearing 8 foot multicolor pole.

I would recommend Jay Scott Berry's. You can produce it from empty Hands and once it has opened you can produce a small bottle of wine/whisky etc. I saw this at the recent lecture at the Plymouth Magic Circle. It costs $75. I loved it and I am going to buy it. It saves the time of making one.

I second and also like General Grant's silk fountain. It is a bit pricey but he taught us how to make them at one of his lectures a couple years ago. Quick setting, no fancy folds, but looks just as beautiful as the pro brands!
