I recently moved here and was looking for any advice on busking.

I think you came to the wrong place. The only work to be had is in the indoor shopping areas of certain casinos. Venetian, Aladdin's Desert Passage, those kinds of places. You have to be hired by the casino to work there.
Busking as described here doesn't exist in Las Vegas. The Casinos "own" the sidewalks. Well, not literally, but close enough. Anything happening outside their doors is seen as an impediment to their business. I've lived in Las Vegas for almost twenty years, and haven't seen one busker or magician for that matter other than in a staged show. The closest we came to breaking through that barrier was the ill fated Caesar's Magical Empire that is now Celine Dion's dressing room. The only hope (one I'm hoping for too) is working in the parks at the various festivals. What kind of magic are you interested in? And how do you look in tights? Our annual Ren Faire is coming up in a couple of months.
No trees were killed in the making of this message, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

Funny thing is I was worried about there being TOO MANY magicians here.
I too, recently moved here from Los Angeles(around 5 months ago) and magic does LACK.(Except for obvious magicians.) Dave pretty much explained the whole situation perfectly so I won't bother going over that again. I am not a busker at all. I had my chance to do it back in the days and decided it was just not the thing for me. I do magic just as an art and a way to try to touch people(I am not talking literally here...haha). So I am just your average "street magician"("guerilla" style). As far as that is concerned casinos even get mad at THAT. Unless you do it a good distance away from their door you are going to get into trouble. Do wait for the local faire........Doing magic outside of any building will probably get you in trouble and there isn't much money involved in corners with very few people,(unless your gazzo in his extreme moments) Good luck. Just for fun... I look horrible in tights. My style of magic is Bizarre,geek,shocking,etc.... Very art based. So I guess I get the boot....haha. Have a great day. |
