I would appreciate suggestions for books and/or tapes/DVDs that contain routine ideas and/or complete shows involving a Christmas theme. I am specifically interested in ideas and routines that can be performed either in classroom settings (Catholic Schools, not public schools) and in livingrooms.
Thank yo very much for your comments and courtesy. Best regards, Michael

Duane Laflin has a book out called Christmas magic which has routines for both secular as well as Gospel applications. Also, in Success Book 4 (Frances and Jay MArshall) there is a seperate booklet bundled in also called Christmas magic which has many great routines too!
Posted: Aug 11, 2005 10:44am John Kaplan has a themed magic act called magic of Christmas which includes both a video of his show, show script as well as marketing kit. you can find information about it on Eric Paul's website http://www.moremoneywithmagic.com. However, at $199 it's not cheap! |

I think there are some axtell christmas routines.
You know you are a magician when you have boxes full of lecture notes you have never read, but still are excited about going out and buying more.

There are a few books on Christmas routines and on eat Hocus Pocus that deals with the marketing of Christmas shows. John Kaplan has a program that goes with his fundraising program for a 1 man Chirstmas show as well as a two person show. You can get this on it's own. It has some good routines. It can be done anywhere.

I used Axtell's "Christmas Bird!" in my Christmas show last year and the kids loved it. It's pretty easy to learn if you already know the song Jingle Bells (and who doesn't). I see he also sells a version for any puppet now, called "Jingle Bells".

There are about 4 older book titles on Christmas Magic (prior to Duane Laflin, Harvey Raft, and John Kaplan products / books), although I can't recall the titles of any of them right now. One was mentioned earlier, as it was re-printed in one of Frances Marshall's Success Books. I seem to recall that the others were available from Magic, Inc. as well (maybe even published by them). I bought them many, many years ago.
Hocus Pocus also has a website page dedicated to the Christmas magic that they sell: http://www.hocus-pocus.com/static/xmas_page.html - Donald

Years ago Jeff Hobson did a bunch of Christmas shows for Catholic Schools. Basic idea was keeping the Christ in Christmas. I asked Jeff if he remembered any of it (he didn't) but told me I could use the idea.

Mike, The Success Books (Vol. 1-4) are originally published by Magic, Inc. out of Chicago. I got my copies years ago from my local dealer, Tony's Trick and Joke Shop.
I did a quick google search, just using the book name and author's names, and it looks like these books are pretty rare, but show up on Magic Auction now and then, and other collector's websites for sale. - Donald

Hi Michael,
There are some great titles as stated above. I also released my full Christmas magic show DVD last year too called "A Tony Christmas Magic Show". You can check out the video clip here at http://tonychris.com/christmasmagicshow.html It is very rewarding to be able to perform an entire Christmas themed show and having one will definitely be fantastic in that one month of the year. Mostly because I find it fun, and because customers seem to appreciate it. I've got quite a collection of Christmas themed magic that I've built up over the years, some commercial and some homemade. If you're looking for ideas, check out David Ginn's "Christmas Magic Workbook" (only $10). He created this back in 2006, and was only selling it to attendees of his Christmas Magic Workshop. Now it's available to everyone. I was one of the contributing authors to this project. http://www.ginnmagic.com/specials102011.html (Item #3, bottom of first page.) The workbook also has information about my Rubber Chicken Cards Christmas Routine that I created 15 years ago, which is a take on David's Lobster Cards. - Donald P.S. When I first linked to this in October 2011 (on the other thread), it was a fresh link. I don't know for sure if David is still selling the lecture notes, or if he is sold out.

Our "Make it Magic Christmas" music CD was created especially for performers to use in their Holiday shows. Check out the details and listen to music samples at http://www.arthurstead.com. Also, around Christmas time, we feature a fabulous Christmas routine (with props) called "Santa's Penguin Eggs."
