There are these new fangled blasted things called SACDs, otherwise known as Super Audio CDs which have 5 channels or something....blah blah blah, I don't know what the deal is exactly, but basically, there are Super CD players that play these Super CD's and they supposedly sound better.
Here's the question. These SACDs can not be read by computers. Something about something or other, (I'm not up to date on all of the tech specs on these). This means that the amazing recording I just purchased of the SF Symphony playing Mahler's 1st, can't make it's way onto my iTunes, and therefor can't get to my iPod, where I would very much like it to be. Does anyone know of any external player or device, or way to hook a cdplayer to iTunes, or ANY WAY at all to get a SACD onto iTunes? Or is that impossible? My other question is: Does anyone have a recording of the SF Symphony playing Mahler's 1st Symphony that's NOT a SACD so that perhaps I could get the recording onto my iPod? Thanx! |

SACD's require an "SACD-capable" DVD drive, which have additional electronics that recognize the modulated watermark crap. AFAIK, there are NO drives for PC's that have this. I would bet that Sony won't even license drives to go in PC's. Of course, consequently, there are NO software player apps for SACD. It is a CE (consumer electronics) format ONLY. Also, it is a Pressed format ONLY (no burning allowed). - Get soulseek (p2p) and download the mentioned track. I have looked and it is available.
