There have been a few posts asking where to get basic alphabet cards to use in tricks like the Wacky Weasel or Chico.
American Wizard seems to have them. http://www.wizardmagic.com//index.php?ma......alphabet |

I was in Toys R Us the other day, and they had Nickelodeon Cards, with the cartoon characters on the faces - I've used this with the Wacky Weasel instead of the alphabet cards (the pack of cards was only a couple of dollars).
May the magic be with you!

Just curious, sorry to go a little off topic, but what do you think of the Wacky Weasel? Is it a good solid kid show prop? On a scale to 1:10 what type of reaction do you get from the kids with it?
Just curious...we've been thinking of investing in some of Wolfe's products as they are so colorful and well-made looking. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! |

Barry Mitchell carries alphabet cards, and I have seen them at the Doc Haley Gospel Magic website, as well.

I made my own. I do a lot of card printing and make gaffs etc., but for the alphabet cards, I just found a font I liked and printed them on Avery labels that are close to 2.5" x 3.5" inches. From there I stuck them on 26 old/extra bikes I have laying around. I also used 4 basic colors and just alternated colors every 4 cards. They look fine.
You may want to go this route if you can't find a ready made set. Jack

Jack:
Great idea and a very pratical way of making any type of themed cards that you made need for an effect. It is also a great way in which to theme a magical presentation more around the client you are working for. Thanks for sharing this with us. Kyle

Just buy them from hank Lee; they only cost about $8-9 per deck. They're Aviator bridge-sized.

You certainly could go that way if you just need normal alphabet cards. You can also go to a educational supply store. They have some around here where theysell school type learning supplies for teachers and day cares etc. They have everything from Alpha bet cards to animal cards etc and at a fraction of the cost. I have used this for some of my own effects.
But it is also nice to know a method in which you can make and design customized cards if you need to and can not find anything for something special you want to do for a client. This gives you alternatives. Kyle

Absolutely Jack. That is what makes this great indeed. Magicians helping magicians. As long as you can make sure to agree that it is ok to disagree at times, everyone will be just fine.
I found your advice and sugestions great. I have often done the same thing myself to create customized effects, but just forgot how cool it is to customize effects for your client. I used to do it a lot, and your post reminded me of the fact that it can be done and be done at a decent and cheap cost that adds so much value to what you provide to a client. Imagine doing a card trick that has the companies logo on the backs or fronts of the cards. This all of a sudden adds more impact and value to what you are doing and the client loves you for going that extra mile. You can even take a standard type trick and make it more impactful and new for kids simply by changing the cards to pictures of anything they can relate to. I have done this with sorceres and magical items to create effects for the Harry Potter book launch that I did. It took me a bit of time, but now the kids could relate to the effect on a whole new level. Just a matter of thinbking outside of the box. Kyle
