Has anyone heard anything about this DVD besides what is posted here: http://www.mjmmagic.com/index.php?main_page=page_9
I've been a long standing Sankey fan. He's put out some great stuff, but ever since "Sankey's Greatest Hits." I've not been liking what I see. I mean, maybe I just know Sankey too well in the sense that I know all his favorite moves and exactly how they look when he does them. To the layman, I'm sure there will be some amazing material in here, but check out the demo. It's just more Sankey doing the same Sankey tricks. It seems there is nothing new. Just my opinion. I realize some like him some don't. I've been a huge defender of Sankey's until recently. I still think he's a creative genius, but if you're a musician, you don't put out the first 10 songs you write on a CD. You write 20 or 30 or sometimes even hundreds and then cut it down to the very best. That's what make s CD sell. Good music is music that has been refined, and played for audiences, it's been tested. The good is kept and the bad is thrown away or refined. Same with a movie. There are hours upon hours spent in the writing, scripting, storyboarding and refining process, months and sometimes years of filming and then extensive editing to give only the best 2 hour film that it can be. Shouldn't it be the same with this art? Should people who are as creative and ingenius as Jay refine his stuff until it is truly marketable before putting it on the market. I may eat my words later and this may be one of Jay's best projects to date and a part of me hopes that is true. When I watch the demo though and read about it, I just think to myself "why?" Why do we need more of the same? Any other thoughts or opinions on this would be much appreciated. Thanks for reading. Dann |

I'm a die-hard. Anything Sankey is what I like. I saw the announcement on his newsletter and was going to post, but you beat me to it!
The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.

I was excited about it as well when I saw it advertised. Just not impressed by the demo. What did you think?

This is very much the same effects collected in a different way. And come on, just because you put Harris's cross twist and add few arrows to it, doesn't mean its a new effect. I liked his shuttle pass. I liked some other methods and things he came up with but hes publishing way too many materials with it. It's like the same thing except with different objects and this time its not even different objects... I really don't know how far he's gonna go but this is a bit too far.

Perhaps he's under a lot of pressure and deadlines to put out things and he is trying to meet those demands, but he is only human.

True. I'm sure having 2 kids puts a stress on a magician to maintain the same standard of living. It just seems like he's putting out a DVD a week these days. Look at Bill Malone. He put out one set and it continues to be one of the most acclaimed DVD sets in magic. The material on there is SO good. It's what he's made a living from. I know I shouldn't compare the two, but it just seems like Sankey puts out every idea that pops into his head. Don't get me wrong, so much of his stuff is absolutely revolutionary and ingenious. I think if he took the best of the best stuff he's created though, he could easily get them on an 8 to 10 DVD set and make a fortune. That is, if he hadn't already released one gem here, one gem there over about a hundred or more DVDs. That's what Bill Malone did. He took his very best stuff and released it on a 4 DVD set. There is no need for a "very best of Bill Malone" and a "Bill Malone's Greatest Hits" and a "Bill Malones most closely guarded secrets" He's already released it all on his one and only DVD set. I think Sankey would find his stuff would be more appreciated and more magicians would have respect for him, if he tested out more of his stuff and only released the stuff that is great. Just my 2 cents.

Can't seem to download the demo. What effects does he do on it? I must say I am intrigued by Slow Motion #2 since his first Slow Motion coins across is such a terrific effect.

It looks like more of the same. Sankey just keeps recycling material over and over and over and over and over and over again and again and again. Each time it's the same tag line "With ordinary objects... fully examinable... closely guarded secrets... blah blah blah."

In the Sept. newsletter, he includes the trick "Apparition". Yes, it's a card trick involving one of his favorite moves, however, the presentation is really nice. With the right patter, this could be a great trick.
