I bought a set of these a couple of years ago and they didn't come with the production gimmick. I was too lazy to do something about it at the time and I had only paid 2 dollars for 10 flowers. Anyway I eventually made a gimmick out of aluminium from a soda can. It worked great but if I wasnt careful I would cut myself. I would first off like to make a new gimmick and I would like to make another gimmick sort of like it for producing other idems (slightly different shape then the flower gimmick). If anyone has any suggestions on how to make a better gimmick to hold the flowers in place, it would be greatly appreciated!

Your original idea should still work fine, but try to file the burrs and sharp edges away, and those that remain, cover with tape (electrician's tape should do fine).

I would go to hobby shop and get a piece of sheet brass. Do a fold out pattern for the design (Basic flowers + thickeness of packet+ amount of edge to fold over to hold them). Cut it out and wire brush it to remove the burrs and such. Fold it and paint it. If you need to cover sharp edge, Michael's idea of tape should work fine.

If you're making them to sell, that's one thing, but if you're making them to use... there are better (and more magical) ways using sleight of hand. Watch the movie "Mask of Zorro (the new one just out)" to see an actor using an impromptu gimmick. If that's how you want to look, OK, but a genuine magician (Wizard) ought to be able to do better with no gimmick and using live cut roses. Do some research in the oldest books on doing magic with corn-cob pipes - roughly the same shape as a rose.

In most cases, I would have to agree with you. But I am not using them to produce flowers. Something else that I believe would fit in a similar gimmick. This object could not be easily back palmed and using real ones is totally out of the question on this one.
