Good point Kauaiimagic... I had some issues with the dollar bill getting a little crispy around the edges when I first started doing this, but I resolved it for the most part. Guess I should have mentioned this initially: When I ball up the dollar bill, I try to fold all the edges of the bill inward so that they are not directly exposed to the heat of the fire. This seems to work quite well.

It's a bit hard to describe in writing, hope I'm being clear enough. It's made a bit clearer with photos in my lecture notes.
