I don't post much anymore to this site but love to log in almost daily. I watch television each night trying to keep informed about our most recent national tragedy....and I am devistated. I am 60 years old but have never witnessed such devestation and human suffering in all my life...if you have informed yourself as to what is happening (how can you not), I am wondering if there is anything the magic fellowship can do to allivate the profound misery of our brothers and sisters in the gulf coast region...in addition to sending cash which is the biggest need.
Texas is the hero state so far and is showing unprecedented generosity and organizational skill in acccepting the welfare of at least 22,000 victims. Other states and cities will follow soon to collectively absorb additional hundreds of thousands of others to help them survive and begin brand new lives. What a wonderful audience children would be in these crowded settings ....where the true delight of magic could really work its wonders to these particular kids. How appropriate to bring the powers and product of our practice and efforts to the benefit of these children (the adults too for that matter. It is an opportunity for us of a lifetime...individually or as groups. Soon, victims may arrive in your state or even you community...be ready! Our fellowship must discuss this. All of us are so lucky....we can do magic!

Amen, cp... Perhaps our gracious host, Steve Brooks could encourage donations from the Café to help out. It would be a worldwide effort, Im sure folks would love to help in this way. And of course our bretheren there in the area might lend a helping hand by doing magic for the people, especially the kids...They could use some magic right about now. Hope so.

Thanks Mb217!!!!!!
I feel so badly for those children! I would be honored to donate a little cash with Steve's help (I have already donated through my employer and will continue). Excellent idea to bring to bear the resources of the Magice Café...wish I could have thought of this idea....good one Mb217....Thanks! CP

So now that the idea is out (which I like by the way) now the question is how do we go about this logistically. Who do we talk to to make it happen? It would have to be organized. Maybe the S.A.M. or the I.B.M. or both would have some pull in organizing an event of this magnitude? Obviously we can't just barge in and perform guerilla style. Another thought is to hold performances with other performers and the money goes to where it would best be allocated. Let's brainstorm here. This has potential to be one hell of an idea. If we can properly organize an event I will be the first to volunteer right now and fly myself to wherever it is I would need to go, perform and not receive a dime. Any others want to join if it works out?

I am amazed at Texas right now - they are going above and beyond the call of duty. I think a lot of other states should look to them as an example. Here are some links where you can donate online:
Humane Society: these folks deserve more attention, they rescue stranded pets ... this is an area that FEMA and other groups won't touch, most shelters do not allow animals and they REALLY need your help! Shelters should be ashamed of theirselves for stranding the animals!!! https://secure.hsus.org/01/disaster_relief_fund_2005? Red Cross: supplying victims left homeless with critical necessities https://give.redcross.org/?hurricanemasthead Salvation Army: A $100 donation to The Salvation Army will feed a family of four for two days, provide two cases of drinking water and one household clean-up kit, containing brooms, mops, buckets, and cleaning supplies http://www.salvationarmyusa.org/ United Way: Funds goto front-end disaster relief, as well as long-term recovery https://volunteer.united-e-way.org/hurricane-katrina/donate/ Bush-Clinton: money is given to the states to help rebuild the infrastructure ... I am looking forward to a new Clinton-Bush commercial! http://www.bushclintonkatrinafund.org/ For a list of legit Christian/Jewish/BlahBlah organizations, goto the FEMA website ... beware of internet scam fundraising! http://www.fema.gov/news/newsrelease.fema?id=18473 JoeJoe
