I'm at the MAES convention and just saw David Oliver's close-up performance. I was very impressed by him. Does anyone know if he has any videos or DVDs out? I had not heard of him before today. He also looked very familiar - like I've seen him in a TV show or movie before. Anyone have any info on him?

Dave is a good buddy of mine. He lives in boston but you can see him regularly at monday night magic in new york. He is probably most famous for his dove act, rings, zombie combo. as well as the amazing "MEAT" case. He also heads up the SYM chapter in boston and teaches kids every year at Tannens magic camp. He is a real pro with a lot to offer. as far as I know he doesn't have any videos for sale but you can check out his website davidolivermagic.com or give him a call.

Thanks. I live close to NYC. I'll have to go check him out. Since my first post, I saw his stage act at the convention and I liked that, too. His Zombie may have been the most moving version I've seen. He seems to have a real gift for evoking emotion in his performances.

I think I remember him being one of Hank's elves way back.

Saw him a few years ago at Magicians and Spirits, forerunner to Mystery Lounge. On his table stood a ball, and a colorful foulard.
"Oh, god," I thought. "Effing zombie for the millionth time." And then he did his routine, and it was the best I've ever seen. Just great. The way it should look. Fantastic. Rory

Saw him in Brooklyn a year or two ago. Absolutely wonderful, and ditto re the Zombie. Hate the Zombie. Despise the Zombie. Yucky Zombie. But David's Zombie was one of the most beautiful magical pieces I've seen a magician do.
He was also great with the children in the audience.

I feel compelled only to offer the following comments:
"David Oliver is the embodiment of the consummate gentleman magician. His kindness and respect for his friends and fans is equal only to his love of the art. His magic is beautiful and effortless. His audience management skills are unparalleled. In my humble opinion there is no finer magical entertainer in the world to date." While I do not know David Oliver personally, I have seen him perform on many occasions and have had the honor of meeting and speaking with him briefly over the years. Based on my experience in seeing and meeting with David Oliver, I believe that my above statements could not be more true. Michael Matson |
