I personally can vouch for the effectivness and great quality I have in the Fender Passport 150 sound system. I use it all the time for all my festival and theater shows and it has never let me down.
It is very compact with the speakers connecting to the main amplifier unit. This makes ease in stroage, transporting it and setting it up. I can set up my music, stand mic, lapel mic and two spoeakers on stands in less then 15 mins. It just makes it very easy for you. It has on it 3 main channels and a 4th channel for your stereo style device. Each of these input channels has it's own set of volume controls etc. so you can customize the sound that you are getting. I also now hook in my iPod so that I can have all my music, voice overs and effects music all in one easy to carry ipod system. I then have an Airclick remote that allows me to control the play of each track from on stage. If you have any questions about it, just let me know. I would be happy to help you out if I can. Kyle

Thanks Kyle. The thing I liked about the soundtec al 12r is that it had a built in CD player, which would be fine for my needs. I don't have enough music in my show to warrant an ipod. It also includes a remote control, and there is an adjustable handle to move the pa on stage. Does anyone use one of these?

It sounds good. You really have to see and think of not only your cureent markets but where you also want to go in the future. You will want a system that works for your current show, gives quality sound but can also adapt as your show adapts along with it.
Certainly an iPod is not for everyone. I use a lot of music in my shows and it just made sense to me not to have to switch cds and lug cd cases and large cd players to every performance. If you plan on keeping your show music limited to one cd, then your option might be the way to go for you. What type of mic are you using now or are you looking for? Also what types of venues are you performing at? This might also help us help you more. Wish you all the best in your magic and in finding a system that meets your needs. Kyle

In my research I am being told that a peavy escort 2000 is preferable and more reliable than a fender pd 150. Does anyone have one of these who can comment?

Sorry I would challenge the one that said the Fender wasn't reliable... I have both the 150 and the 250 and have NEVER had any problems from either! The only problem I do find is deciding which to carry to a show. I carry both in their own ATA case I had built for pertection I roll them in and open up and I am done! Depending on the number of students at your school events I would check out the P-80 or the P-150 you shouldn't ever need anything more than either of these two. However, you sounded pretty sure of yourself about the soundtec al-12R If this is what you like go for it...but remember that if any of the components that are built in, go down on you ... the WHOLE system is down until you get it fixed. Good Luck, let me know what you decide?

I would also agree with Robert. If you use the Fender 150 or 250 the right way, then you will never have a problem with it at all. I have used it for hundreds of shows and have never had a problem with it. It is very reliable and sets up and breaks down with ease.
I find the most problems people have is that they set it up wrong or plug in their mics or music into the wrong way. In this case it really becomes a user error and not that of the system being used. I use it for a lot of festival gigs every season and I often have foiund that my Fender system is by far superior then anything they have provided for me or the other performers. Mine is more reliable and the sound is better. If you have any questions about the Fender 150 or the iPod hookup I use to run my music, just let me know and I can help you out with that. Kyle

I also echo the Fender! I have a 250 and it has served me well now for a little over two years. I also like the fact it can use a battery (an accessory piece) becuase a fair amount of my venues have little or no power. The battery says it lasts for about 6-8 hours, although I haven't tested that limit yet <g>

I also have seen and like the battery backup that you can get for the Fendor system. It is most ideal for the situations I find myself in with doing the festivals and afirs I work most of the year. It provides a good amount of power and quality sound without having to worry about running a 100foot cable to the nearest power source.

Many school assembly entertainers use Anchor systems, because some of them are self-powered and set up quickly.
I use a Crate Limo Amp - works great. |

Another vote for the Fender PD150 - I love it!
Get the stands. Best, James |

I would absolutely get the stands and I also got a carrying bag for the stands as well. It is just worth it.

Being a musician/magician I can say honestly that they are both very good companies and the equipment dependable. I have used plenty of Peavy and Fender equipment over the years musically and these lightweight portable PA's are both equally great. I recently bought(another) Peavy unit because their customer service is outstanding. I have had some problems with Fender's CS in the past and along with price, I leaned towards the Peavy unit. I believe it really boils down as to which one is going to be the best price for you. My music dealer really cut me a great price over the Passports or otherwise I may have gone with Fender.

It seems to me that the Fender and Peavy are running neck and neck. My local music store includes all stands in their price of $569 for the Peavy Escort. They also insist the Fender is more complicated, and they sell about 4 times as many Peavys for this and other reliability reasons. So I guess that is the direction I am leaning in. My store is a dealer for both Fender and Peavy, so they have no personal reason for leaning towards Peavy.

I don't know anything about the Peavy, but the Fender is not of the quality that many people beleive. I had one for 2 years before selling it.
They are great units, but they are cheaply made in China. The speaker wires are very thin and are known to have a tendency to short out. For anyone that has a Fender I recommend checking the speaker leads for a possible short. One of mine shorted out and burnt out the amp. The reason such thin wires are used is so they easily fold up to hide in the self contained compartment. It is a compromise between quality & convenience. When I had mine repaired the technician told me the speaker leads shorting out was a common problem in the Fender Passports. Fender have done a lot of warrantee repairs on them. The internal VHF receiver is a great feature but I believe not available in UHF. That is something to consider especially if you are outside the US. Some areas get too much interference on VHF. The 150 Passport is very convenient & easy to transport the way it snaps together. It is different with the 250 Passport. Unless you are a weightlifter & built like the Governor for California you can’t easy carry it around in the same way. With the 250 the whole snap together feature is good for storage but not for transport. Also if you have a Fender watch out for the clips at the top. Although the units have a 5 year warrantee it is limited to only 12 months for those snap clips. If you snap them closed while they are not perfectly lined up they can easily get bent & not close properly.
