I routine my hot rod as a "hypnosis" demonstration. I of course use the hotrod force to get the selected jewel in the mind of the spec and tell them on the count of 3 that they will be hypnotized and all the jewels will look the same color to them but in reality they are all still different colors. I then test their attention span using the "out-of-sight-out-of-mind" principle as I pass the stick through my fist a couple of times to show that the hypnosis is wearing off and count to 3 again while showing "both" sides until, on 3, they all change back to one color. We do the attention span test once again but only for one pass through the closed fist where I show the spec that they are now only "halfway" hynotized as the jewels are different colors on one side and all red on the other. Then while showing the red side, I do a countdown from 3 and and snap, "removing" the hynpnotic state as all the jewels openly change back to diferent colors on both sides. Of course I quickly move on to something else to keep hands of the prop.
Anyway, this is my interpretation on this wonderful little tool. Anybody have any other good routines? BTW, I always have the main spec asking all his or her friends if they see all the red stones too. I simply say that the hypnotic state gets spread to all those that in the vicinity. Total BS but it works great so far. Sammy the Kid |

If you use this effect a lot, you might want to invest in the extra pieces that allow you to drop the Hot Rod into someone's hands when it is all one color "so they can see that it is not just a trick of the light that the stones appear to be all of one color." Then ring in the other piece at the end, but not to pass out to the audience... just put it down on your table and let curiosity take its course.

I love the hot rod. I'm just not comfortable with the force. I've tried to work out different ways in Spanish using birthdays and the like, but I haven't yet found anything that yells at me.
Or better, "Hey, what's your favorite color?" Etcetera.
Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy; The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, And I've a many curious things to show when you are there. Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain, For who goes up your winding stair -can ne'er come down again. |

Try this. Tell the spectator to hold out a finger above the Hot Rod and move it back and forth. Then just touch one of the colors without looking. Better yet, close your eyes and touch a color. Then, while their eyes are shut, you push the force color up against their finger and tell them to open their eyes to see what color they "randomly" chose.
Uh,oh! Is that going to get me in trouble with the "secret" police?
