Besides your opening lines which can be found in another thread close to this, do you guys say or do anything that warms up the crowd? I'm only referring to stage or stand up magic here with an audience 30 and up including both children and adults.
What do you guys say to warm up your crowd, to establish your stage persona? |

Magic,
I am not a professional entertainer,(amatuer as of now) so take this as just what has worked for me. My persona is not laughing/joke/humor based. So I don't normally get into jokes. My persona, as a mentalist, is a well-travelled, likeable person, with a gift that I have developed, and want to share with the audience, basically, we're going to enjoy our evening in a very unusual way. My first 4 seconds, I stand, look confidently towards the sitters (essentially acknowledging their presence), and say....nothing. I have learned this in acting class. It establishes your presence, that you own the space you are in. This is so *** effective for me, it is scary. After that, I intro myself, and go from there. I tend to work with a theme in my presentations...Survivor, Movies, in one case, job seeking skills. That gives me a verbal platform from which to work. This does help get them prepared for the presentation. Hopefully gives you something to chew on. Again, I'm not a paid professional, and have only performed about 5 times this year. But this has worked for me. |
