Just after a bit of advice on what 'tests' work the best when trying to establish how appropriate a candidate is. What do you guys use?
Thanks, BBear |

Whatever you do stay away from Jonathan Royle. He is not a teacher but rather a scam artist.

Not sure why you say that of Royle. To be honest, although his style is not for me, and I do think his ego is far greater than his talent, there's no doubt that he can a) hypnotise and B) show others how to hypnotise.
Albeit when he speaks I just start laughing.

I know of Royle's reputation but I agree with Bobser. I bought some of his DVD's/CD's off ebay and found them to be very interesting and usefull, and cheap.

How about the original question?
The hand clasping, the eyelid closure test, the arm raising and lowering , and the jaw locking work for me. Any others would be great to hear instead of bashing a guy.

These are great recommendations and they are so powerful that there are Hypnotists that use these to actually take you into trance. No testing just using whoever comes up and volunteers and then take them to night night land.

I see you work Branson Danny. I'll have to come up and catch your show. I live in Longview, TX about 5 hours away. I've seen your posts but never realized you were a hypnotist.
Alexander Duvall and Blair Robertson were the two I was thinking of when I made that post. Hands Locked, Eyes Locked, Sleep. I studied both of their techniques but when it came time for my first show I opted for the Modified Dave Elman Technique. I had 20 volunteers and kept 12 on my first show and I was as amazed at what was happening as the audience was. Martin

Martin judging from attendance you are the ONLY one comming to the show LOL!!!
actualy that was more serious a post than I wish was true. But we are changing that slowly. Unfortunatly we are not selling out and seats are NOT too tough to get. Kreskin dosn't even use an induction. He uses a series of these tests and gradually raises expectations and they naturally go further and further. Many argue that the trance itself is merley a theatrical conceit. Because without it, who would believe what they are seeing is real? That people expect one so they get one. Mine is short and sweet, especially with only a few people up. I am probably the worst guy to watch and learn from. Seriously. The show is designed to be entertaining, period. I use so many different techniques so many different ways that it is not very educational. A longer induction makes the hypnotist feel better, as you can see how relaxed people are getting. Ok way off topic here sorry. Back to the question. How about the fingertip attraction, that always works.

Danny, keep slugging, my friend, they will start coming in droves. Branson is a tough market but if anybody can do it, you can! And thanks for the kind words on the thread about hypnosis and kids - they were very kind.
As to the original question - hands rising and falling and the hands clasp are all I use, formally. Then a couple of compliance bits once they are on stage during the pre-induction talk and we go right into the induction. Lee Darrow, C.H.

I use pre-tests during my pre-talk more as an audience participation bit rather than as a means to choose volunteers. This gets the whole group following my directions, having fun, and displays the "power of their own mind".

I usually do 2 susceptibility tests.
Heavy hand/ Light hand wihich is done with the spec sitting down and eyes closed. Then helium balloon on finger, done standing up with eyes open. I don't use the helium balloon patter though, I say they will feel a cool, light sensation. However I had a Chinese subject a few weeks ago who was confused by this, he said he didn't know if he should feel the cool sensation or the light sensation. Personally I've never had any trouble with a subject feeling both, but I might change back to helium balloon for subjects that don't speak English as their primary language. Dave Everett |
