Does anyone use these coins for coin work? they are a very large size.

Unless this Crown is different to other releases, its diameter is 38.61mm. An Eisenhower dollar's diameter is 38.1mm. So, a Crown isn't much larger than the coins that a lot of people use in close-up work (Curtis Kam and Larry Barnowsky, for example).
Ron McMillan, a great Miser's Dream exponent, recommended either Crowns or Dollars for stage work. Finally, in a lecture, David Roth once said that he would love to work with Dollars (only 0.5mm or so smaller than a Crown), but his hands weren't the right size. Personally, I think he did himself an injustice. Considering his routining and misdirection, I'm convinced he could work with gold bricks and still produce great magic. So, I don't think Crowns are too large for coin work. But they might be too costly. Ian P.S. Steve - how's your one-coin routine going, the one you showed me at a YMC workshop? |

Hey Ian! great teaching btw at the workshop! I really liked your style!
Thanks for asking! but it came to a halt when I realized I was gona do the whole IBM act to music I am doing coins though, I am using chinese coins to do 3 fly, looks nice because they have holes. I will get back to the one coin routine though! yours was excellent, made me get back into coin stuff. Hope all is well, Steve Dela |

Spot on Ian, 38.61mm
This issue has a very sharp mill on the edge and gives great traction.

Well, I'm interested, and Reed McClintock is heading your way tomorrow. Can anyone post a photo here for your Crownless friends across the pond?

Does anyone know if these would slide well for 3 fly type routines?
They look sexy and are a nice size and are modern day silver coins! if they slide they might be worth owning, otherwise the faces would have to be milled slightly. Steve Dela |

Thank you kindly for the link. Very interesting, but not different enough from my Morgans to be obvious to my audiences. I may get some anyway, if I can come up with a good proper British effect for the coins to perform. Coins to Tea cup? No wait--I have it--"Hanging Coins". What better "excuse" for vanishing just three of the four coins? The British tax system!
Steve, careful. Smooth, well-worn coins dated 2005 might draw a bit of suspicion.

I think the next issue is Admiral Nelson so you could do a routine around Nelson and the Trafalgar coin.
The edge of the coin is slightly raised from the face but the milling does not extend all the way, the rim on the faces are beveled.

For those interested in such things ; until recently a crown was a five shilling piece and not five pounds.
It was refered to sometimes as a "doller"and the half-crown as half-a-dollar. |
