Just bought the Nelson ClipBoard from Hank Lee's: what a disappointment and $20 down the drain (although I may call Hank and ask for a refund). It is made in Calcutta and the quality is so sub par as to be laughable. Huge hunks of glue on the clip and the "wood Panel" wrinkles up down the board. You can see the outline of the gimick sticking up on the board.
I should have known. I called Denny and he said he doesn't carry any boards because he hasn't found one that he likes. Now I know why. |

To be fair, the original Nelson boards are excellent. These are cheap knock-offs. You aren't going to get a good one for $20--you get what you pay for!

I agree. They don't make the original's anymore, or I would have tried to get it.
In fact there doesn't seem to be a decent clipboard on the market right now. When I ordered it, I specifically asked if it was exactly like the original's and was told it was. If anyone can recommend a good clipboard that is still being made, please do. |

Currently, I would rate Lee Earle's Millennium Clipboard, as a good working mentalist's clipboard. I have seen debate over this board, but I and my partner use it for our two man show and are very pleased with our results. The board itself is clear plastic.
For obvious reasons, I cannot go into the debate or further information on the board in this forum. If you are interested contact Lee Earle at leeE7@aol.com . Hope this helps.

If you can get the Lee Earle Micro-thin clipboard, it is very good--better than the Millenium, which I also have. Lee doesn't make these anymore, but you can sometimes find them from dealers of used magic like Kenna Thompson or on eBay.
I also use the Nelson PADS. While not a clipboard, they accomplish the same thing, and look like an ordinary pad of scratch paper.

If it's better why doesn't he make them anymore? That's weird.

Jonhathan ,
Nelson does not make them any more because he is dead. The rights to make them were sold to William Brewe in cincinnati. They were sold to him by Nelsons wife years ago. I help him manufacture them and The are better. I have one made by Nelson himself and one made by William and you can't tell the difference. William also bought the rights to the Nelson book on the clipboard and it is still one of the best books on the subject (in my opinion).
THOUGHTfully,

London,
Jonathan, I believe, was talking about Lee's clipboards. He was asking why, if the micro-thin is better than the millennium, he no longer makes them. --Andy P.S. - One possibility is that the materials aren't available or as readily available. Another is that Lee thinks the Millennium is better (better is, after all, a subjective judgment). Or maybe another reason.

Good clipboards are almost impossible to find. Long ago I resorted to making my own.
I humbly suggest they are equal to Nelson's originals in most respects and superior in the others. I have received many requests to sell the boards and have decided to do so. I anticipate they will be available by the end of the month and I will offer a discount to members of the cafe. Best Regards- Bob Cassidy |

While not a huge fan of Lee Earle's Clip Board, I was a fan of his Clone Pad (not folio)and Pre-show pads. Both of which he discontinued. My guess is , after the first blush of what's new, what's hot. Sales drop radically. So when initial stock is depleted, the manufacturer has to invest in having new items made. And since sales are now probably a fraction of what they once were, Lee decides not to bother For example, I ordered Fortulator from John Cornelius. Used it for two years. It stopped workin, so I called to order another. Oops! out of stock, no plans to re-issue. Because to buy them at a good price, you have to order a groos and sales had dropped to a couple of dozen a year. from Ford |

What is the title of the Robert Nelson book dealing with clipboards? What other books are recommended for clipboard use? Thanks for the help.
