I am wondering if anyone out there is offering a disc jockey service in addition to magic? I know that Ken Scott in GA does but I am curious if anyone else is doing the same?
My brother-in-law is selling off his D.J. stuff and I may be interested in adding this to my list of services. I specialize in children's shows and do not do anything corporate anymore. However, I think by adding this to my list of things I can do, this helps the client and puts more money in my pocket. Many years ago I was a D.J. but only part time. I have a huge selection of music and everyone tells me I have a great voice, so why not? Any suggestions would be great! I am wondering if anyone does this and if so how many times a year would you say that you add this service on and how much extra does it generate? My brother-in-law tells me that he would do a 3-5 hour gig and make $500.00 or more sometimes. Add this on to the price of a show and you are doing pretty good. |

There was a guy in Vancouver doing this. His name was Bruce Bissell. I think DJ got the work and magic was offered as extra.

Todd,
I've never done DJing, but it makes sense to add this to your services. You don't necessarily have to do BOTH magic and DJ at an event. Even if you are mainly doing kids shows, your clients will have weddings, bar mitzvahs and other celebrations when they might need a DJ, but don't necessarily need a magic show. You can use the same mailing list to promote both of your services. The rate is going to vary depending on the area. I'd do a quick web search, make a few calls and ask some local DJs what their rates are. Good luck! James |

If you do DJ shows which kind of FX do you need?
And do you use a portable PA for it?
Magical greetings,

I had a Peavey Escort in mind because it has 4 channels and comes with speakers, stands and everything you need. It easily rests on a table and even looks like a D.J. system

I know that Joslin of Friday and Saturday nights at the Magic Castle (he sits in a corner next to the Palace of Mystery bar) is a magician as well as a DJ. I don't know his contact info, but I believe that he resides in Orange county, CA. Maybe the Castle will be able to put you in touch with him.

I used to provide a DJ service. I did that with a friend of mine who was good a spinning the tunes - I worked more as the MC. He ended up moving away and I didn't keep up with the DJ work. It was a good way to supplement the income, though.

I used to offer a DJ service in my area. I mostly did school dances and things like that. I am a musician, and used to play in a rock band, so I already had most of the equipment I needed. I have not D.J.'ed in a couple years and really doubt if I will get back into it anytime soon. I enjoyed it, but I just have too much going on and there is not enough hours in the day to do everything I would like to do.

I offer DJing as part of my business. I have been DJing for over 14 years now. It brings in fairly easy work doing weddings and such.
I started DJing at 16 performing at Raves and such. After about 3 years of low pay, I got involved with a DJ company. Taught me a lot of what and what not to do. After about 2 years, I started my own business. Just recenctly (2 years) I have hired other people to start DJing for me. I have a whole training course before they even go out on a piggyback night. I do offer magic as an add-on to some DJ gigs. I have had some gigs actually book my company for almost all there entertainment. DJ, Magician, clowns, facepainters, stiltwalkers, balloon artists. Very profitable. It is nice because the equipment (sound and lights) work for DJing and for shows. Even small stage show, I bring a cordless headset mic, an amp and a speaker an cd player. I hate using "their system"...can never trust it will work properly. I often will do a few balloon sculptures for kids and the couple of honour at a wedding while I am DJing. I do this one gig every year where it is juggling and DJing at the same time. Very interesting and gets a lot of referral work for me! |

My partner and I offer DJing amongst all the other things, it's very popular, as my dad always says the more things you can do to earn some money the better. Go for it mate!
Keep passing the open windows!

I offer both Djs and magic. And if you good quality sound lighting and special effects write me or email me. In the end DJing brings in ten times more many than magic in the right market.

Majikworks, Yes it does bring in more steady money. Even lower priced DJs can make $1000.00 a week for 10 hours work. And that's just one day with multiple DJs working for you.

Although I don't usually combine the services, I am also a pro DJ on the side. I've been asked a few times to combine the services, but I find the prep for both a bit too much for my liking. Until I get absolutely comfortable with stage work I'll leave the two services separate.

DJing is something I've been doing with a close friend now for the past 3 years. We are going to add magic to the show we already do. We already MC and keep the night on schedule, we play games with the audience when they get tired of dancing. We came up with the idea of magic to entertain the guests, especially at wedding receptions, when they are waiting on the bride and groom to arrive or the caterer is late.
