What do guys think is too young to produce rabbid? What's the sweet spot age for a rabbid production? I just got my first feedback that the parent thought his child was too young for rabbid. I could also soften the presentation of my rabbid also. Thanks.

Is rabbid a word? Am I missing something here?

Hi Tyler:
"Rabbid" is a scary looking latex production rabbit. You can do a search with many dealers and see what it looks like. Ron |

It is a good question. I liked the product but just never felt it fit my own personal character and all it takes is one kid getting scared or crying to ruin an entire performance that is really suppose to be fun and entertaining. However, I think older kids would get a kick out of it and appreciate it for what it is. I am thinking maybe around the age of 7 and up. Of course I have not tested this out, but this is an educated guess.

As usual it's all in the presentation.
I have done RR in Daycare around Halloween and got giggles because of the way I reacted. RR seems to do better the older the child, naturally, but 7 and above is the magic number. Adults really love it. I think because it has that "rat fink" look. After the initial shock I look him in the eyes and say "I think you've had Too much coffee!" before quickly getting him out of sight. Don't spend too much time to allow the audience to get too good a look at it. It's like a good horror movie. Just let them see enough to be shocked and wonder what the **** it was and how it fit in such a small space. The effect is like a cartoon.

We just had our first KIDabra Local Chapter meeting and it was suggested, if you do the "Rabbit in the Hat" routine add this funny bit. When the rabbit first appears, it is the "Rabid Rabbit" which scares you and you jump back.
You pull off the "Rabid Rabbit" mask revealing the cute Rabbit in the Hat bunny, which that bunny whisperes in your ear. "How did you like my Halloween costume?" From here the bits of business can go on and on like the energizer bunny. He can scare you with a spider, a finger puppet, etc. (a puppet with a scary finger puppet?) That's funny Have fun!

I wonder if, using the right presentation that was more funny than scary, the rabbid could be used with younger than 7?
Another question somewhat on topic: are all spring rabbits created equal? Or is one better than the other? Thanks for all the feedback. Jim

I produce Rabbid JR. and I do it for any age in a comedy wat...the kids think that it is funny because it surprises and scares me. I also figured out how to compress him into a cigar box in such a way that when I lay the box down and walk off...the lid slowly opens and the rabbid opens the box just enough to "peek" out of the box...the kids go CRAZY!

Anybody remember Bulwinkle producing a snarling lion from his hat? It is all in the presentation. Does it fit your character? Does it make sense or are you just trying to scare your audience?
Cheers, Tom |
