I feel really stupid asking this question. But I just witnesed Criss Angel Walk down a building. And Stated that if you were to come to his live show you would see the exact same stunt done live with the theatre walls. I know that most of his tricks are made for TV but where on this planet can I read about a method that can be done in a stage setting or even outside... please be gentle with me I can cry if easily teased....

Most of the things he does on his series you can see live at his shows. Im not sure of a source of method for his building walk. Im sure there is one out there some where though.

Brandon,
I don't know the method for the wall walking but I wonder if the statement, "You can see it live at my show" isn't just a bit of mis-direction itself. Like if you were to say, "and I place the quarter into my left hand" while doing a retention vanish. (I in no way condone the "telling a spectator what they are seeing" to be used as patter, its just an example) It may be along those lines. I'm not accusing anyone of "lying" (isn't that what we all do anyway?). I'm just saying it might be a psychological ploy.

Well, D.C. did a walking thru a wall leading up to the walking thru the Great Wall of China. They were completely diff. tricks. I believe the same holds true here. I do think you could watch criss from the street because the shot from his point of view showed an empty parking lot below. Im sure no one was in great distance from him. Also he kindacrab crawled the big building with spectators but actually walked down the small building with no spectators present.
Give it some thought. How would you do it? Curt |

I havn't watch Mind freak for a few weeks now, last night was the first time.
I did notice that Criss 'went out of his way' to explain everything you see on his TV special you can see in his live show. Does this mean the comments from this board have gotten back to him? It's kind of interesting that he must care enough of what 'other' magicians are saying to respond like this. Upto now he seesm to have risen above that. Anyway It is interesting to note that the building walk at high levels was as, pointed out, a spiderman crawl and at a lower levels, a walk down. I am sure this plays an important role in this effect. Magicurt made a good point about view distance, distance and lighting can cover a variaty of sins. So I am sure that he can perform this walk in his stage show as well. However its done, its a very impressive effect. In answer to the orginal question, I am sure that criss has made sure that this effect is not in the pubic domain, but if you have the budget (like criss does) there are illusionist designers out there, that could create such an effect. If you watch the effect closly you will able able to get little hints of how he is doing this. this is shown more on the high building walk. And poor me I am still trying to learn a good Zarrow shuffle! kind regards steve
I do look forward to the day when you post something constructive.

When you approach such a project as 13 TV shows, you must look at the entire project - not just the first show. The problem is, magicians want to critize Chris after the first show without seeing the entire project. It would be like reading the first chapter of a book, and then printing a review. I think saying "this shot won't cut away" on every show would eventually get old. So he looks over all 13 episodes, and figures out where it will fit in best - and found an excellent spot for it, walking through the window. It sounds much more impressive there than it would have sounded for the wine barrel escape. JoeJoe

I saw the show last night and was not overly impressed. The method is obvious to me. The illusion of walking down a building can only be accomplished using 1 of 2 methods. I won't discuss them here in a public forum. Regardless of which method he used, it would take some serious B*lls to step out on that ledge and trust your "method". To look straight down 14 stories with nothing under you would be a trip unto itself. Kudo's to Criss for his magic episodes and his showmanship.

If that's a shot at him for being just a "TV magician" (although there is a certain irony, given that he sniped David Blaine with that very accusation), to say he's not proved himself live is one shot you can't hit him with. He cut his teeth on live shows, his original "Mindfreak" theatre show on Broadway ran for years, he has toured theatres internationally and his endurance publicity stunts took place in public areas of New York. He does approach TV slightly differently to his live shows (well, you have to, they're different mediums) but suffice it to say, he definitely knows what he's doing on a live stage. |
