A pet piece of mine I thought I'd share. Based on an old something I read in Stephen Minch's Book of Thoth (the one about the amulet). I know it's based on something older, but I can't find the reference. If anyone knows, I'd love to know that bit of history.
Mark The wizard sat at the table with his companion. “Do you know what this is?” he asked, holding up a silver coin. His companion shook her head, an incredulous look on her face, and guessed, “An old fifty cent piece?” “Exactly,” said the wizard, “It’s a 1942 Walking Liberty half dollar. My grandfather gave me when I was sixteen. He had it in his pocket when his unit liberated Anzio in World War II,” he paused, “It was his good luck piece. He was the only surviving person in his unit.” “That’s pretty incredible,” said his companion. “It is,” agreed the wizard, “but, and I’m almost ashamed to admit this, when my grandfather first gave it to me, what impressed me the most, was that it was minted the same year that one of the greatest wizards of the modern era was born.” “Who was that?” “Why, Jimi Hendrix, of course,” smiled the wizard. “Yeah, well you should be ashamed,” said his companion with a semi-amused smile. “I am, but I’ve found some pretty incredible things about this coin. Let me show you.” The wizard reached into his pocket and pulls out a well used pack of playing cards. “I know I promised you I wouldn’t subject you to any more card tricks, but this isn’t a trick. It’s magic. There’s even music and a magic spell involved here.” “Oh goody, a musical,” she said, “but this is the last time. No more after this.” “It’s a deal then,” the wizard passed the deck to his companion, “shuffle away then, my dear.” His companion shuffled the pack and handed it back to the wizard who immediately fanned it and held it out to her with a smile, “Pick a card!” “I thought,” she said pulling a card out of the fan, “you said this wasn’t a card trick.” “It’s not,” he assured her, “just wait. You’ll love it.” He started peeling packets of cards from the top and said, “Tell me when to stop. . .” “Stop.” “. . . and put your card there.” After she had done this, he placed the remainder of the deck on the top of the pack and returned the entire deck in it’s box. “Now comes the music and the magic spell. Do you remember the words to “Purple Haze”? I’ll tell you what, you hum the guitar part, I’ll sing.” He took his coin up in his hand, held it over the card box, and chanted, “Purple haze, all in my brain, lately things just don’t seem the same.” He opened the hand over the box to reveal the coin had vanished. Pushing the box towards his companion he asked, “What was your card, again?” “I hadn’t told you, but it was the four of hearts. Now what?” “Open the box.” His companion did. “Spread the cards and you should find. . . my grandfather’s lucky coin in there.” His companion just stared at him, “You’ve got to be kidding.” She then slid the deck from it’s box and spread them on the table. A silver coin, a 1942 Walking Liberty half dollar is rested on top of one card. Turning it over she revealed it to be the four of hearts. The wizard looked up at the ceiling and murmured, “Thanks, Gramps.” Curtain

Thanks Clifford. I've gotten so much from you all, I figured it was time to give a little back.
Hey, from a proofreading standpoint, would everyone please ignore the "is" in "is rested" in the third or so to last line. Too tired to figure out how to edit at this point. Mark
