I was curious if any of you offer gift certificates to your clients? I'm going to be doing a show at a local school for their PTA's family night. They are going to be having a raffle that night. I'm considering offering them 5 $50 gift certificates to use for their raffle. My thought is that this can be written off as a charitable donation to the PTA and it insures that a number of families will leave with my information. I'd appreciate your thoughts about doing this.
Thanks, Tony |

It is a great idea and also gets your name out there and for a good cause as well. Another way to do it is to have a raffle where they put their information onto small little forms that you create yourself and that is placed into your own box etc. This way not only are you giving out a few prizes with the raffle, but not you are doing active style marketing and will then have a lot of these forms filled out with information that could be very valuable to you as a marketer.
When you get home, you can send them a simple thank you card stating that you thank them for coming to the show, hope they had a great time and that even though they may not have won that night, they can all be winners with a great magic show at their next event. It now puts you in more control even after you are done the gig. Just a thought. Another idea that goes over well for client's etc. are gas cards as well as gift cards to a local food establishment. Kyle,
Thanks for that idea. It's a good one. I actually approached the school about that but they did not want me to do my own raffle. Instead, they said they would purchase 6 magic kits from me to raffle off. Those kits will all have my name and information as well. I'll also be bringing my brochures to hand out to people while I'm there. I will ask those people who are interested in taking my brochure to fill out their contact information. Hopefully that will give me some contacts that I can actively market to. Thanks, again for the advice. I really appreciate it. Tony |

Not a problem at all. The one thing you said that makes so much sense is the art of ASKING. You will never know what you can obtain unless you are willing to ASK.
What I would do is set up a little information table someplace. On this table you can get a small tri fold brch holder at Staples or Office Max and place your trifods in there. You can get a business card holder and place your cards in that. Have a clipboard with your e-mail mailing list on it and a pen attached for people to fill out. Just "Prime" the list before you get there. Priming the list is basically having a few names on it already. people tend to not like to be the first person signing anything. But, if they see others have already done so, it makes it easier for them. If you have coloring flyers or magic certificates for the kids, these can also be on your table. Then have a sign near by or on an easel saying" Please take one to see how I can work magic for you." This little information table will be a great way to direct people to it after the show etc. and allows you to get your name out there to as many folks as you can. Hope this helps you. Kyle
