I have found this on Hocus-Pocus web site. Any of you have seen it or used it ? I hope it is more than just another idea with Fogel`s envelope.
From the breast pocket of your jacket, you remove a completely normal long format envelope, which until this time has been visible like a white pocket handkerchief. It has been folded in half length-wise; otherwise, nothing else has been done to it! While you unfold it and smooth it out, you step over to a pretty, young, blonde lady and tell her how sensitive she appears to be. So much so, that you have absolutely no doubt that you can transmit something to her telepathically. Look intensely at her forehead, lost in thought. Stop suddenly at some point and ask the lady to name the first three digit number that comes into her mind. Let us assume for a moment that she says 348. Congratulate her and explain that you indeed knew how extremely sensitive she would be in catching your thoughts. "348 - That is exactly the number that I wrote down on a postcard, and it is here inside my envelope right now." Then place the envelope aside and go directly into your next experiment as a joke. "OK, watch! I will prove what I am saying!" As you continue, pick up the envelope once more, take a large felt tip marker out of your inner pocket, uncap it, and use it to write something on the back of the envelope, but do this in such a way that your spectators cannot see what you have written. "I have just written something on this envelope. Do you know what it is?" Naturally, she does not know. So she will answer your question truthfully: "No!" she will say, not knowing that you have hit the nail on the head a second time. "No" is actually what has been written, in large letters, with the felt tip marker, on the back of the envelope. Thunderous applause? No, quite the opposite, a tired laugh here, renewed protests, there, and groans everywhere. "As I told you, one must start small, but it works, as you can see." As you say this, give the sealed envelope to some gentleman who has most audibly expressed his mistrust and disappointment, and ask him to open it himself. Perhaps you will give him a letter opener, to make it easier for him. And when he opens it, you say, "And when one has practiced enough and has worked his way to the top with these small steps, then one can try what I have tried with this gifted young lady. Do you know the number that she received from me telepathically? 348! And, my untrusting friend, what do you read upon the card, which was inside the envelope that you just opened, yourself?" There it says, written in small letters (magicians take notice!) in ball point pen: 348! This is the perfect interlude for anyone wishing to include mentalism into their act. It's got audience participation, comedy, and surprise! USES NO THUMB TIPS OR SWAMI WRITERS! Plus it packs tiny and plays HUGE! Number Wonder comes complete with everything needed to perform, including felt-tipped marker, handsome stainless steel letter opener, supply of envelopes (that can be refilled at any office supply/stationary store), gimmick, and detailed instructions with complete patter included! |

Number Wonder uses a method taken directly from Borodin's wonderful book, Shererazade. Better to buy the book as it explains clearly how to make and use the gimmick. Very clever and has unlimited applications. Send me a note if you have any questions.

I haven't been able to find this book. I think it is out of print and is no longer available.
