I'm thinking of possible routines for Halloween, and had an idea, in part inspired by recent posts here.
The magician calls a spectator up and introduces to them a ring. The ring displays mysterious properties, seeming to change size and cause strange sensations in the spectator's hand. The magician then reminds the spectator what happened to a certain hobbit who'd beheld the ring for too long: he became convinced his best friend was a hideous monster and tried to kill him. At that point, the spectator looks up at the magician and screams. The magician, for the briefest of instances, took on the likeness of a monster. Using Kenton Knepper's The Ring and the UV makeup stuff mentioned in another thread. Still in pure idea stage (just had the idea tonight, in fact). An alternate method could be to use something like Jeff McBride's mask sequence. What do you think? |

Sounds good Silverfire.
When their attention is on the ring, possibly looking at the inscription, talk like Golem so they look up. Ouch! Mike Close has a tongue in cheek routine about vampires in one of his Workers. When the specs look at him he has fangs. Reminds me of those dark nights where we would put our flashlights under our chins casting eery shadows across our faces. Good luck. |

Great idea, but will the UV make up work out? How do you make it show up without the lights changing.....or would they? Have you ever seen those mask that are kind of clear with painted facial features(like the ones robbers use)? It might be possible to have one of those in your shirt behind your head. If you had the ring in your left hand, you could easily misdirect them enough to reach back with your right hand and pull it over your face (so the rubber band would grab on). That would scare me!
