Hey guys, think there is any room in the market for another "T&R bill in..." effect? I've been sitting on an effect where a torn and signed bill is placed inside of a card box,and 3 of the four pieces dissapear from the box while the spec is holding it, leaving the spec holding a single piece. Prior to this, a prize was offered if the trick failed. The prize a "deluxe diner for two". The prize is revealed and it is a box of KD. The box is then opened and found to contain the usual, macaroni and cheese! (go figure). The cheese sauce packet is opened and dumped into a bowl, when a bill falls from within. The bill is unfolded, corner and signature match, yada yada.
Is this marketable? I've been doing this trick for 6 years now, and it has always gotten great reactions for me, but is it something you guys would buy? And is it original? Let me know.

Most importantly it works for you. As a routine with presentation and perhaps the basic prop setup I would say so. On the IP side, how is this distinct from the old crackerjack thing of Micheal Weber's?

I wonder if Weber would even like it discussed.

Why wouldn't he like it discussed. I am not shure why anyone wouldn't like their effects discussed. Are there really some people like that? What do they think we are going to do? I understand not talking about the how... that's a given if they don't want that discussed, but talking about it? Seems to me that request might be a little imature/selfish or maybe their ego might just get in the way. So, for what it's worth, talk about it, have fun with it, we do have freedom of speech.

If Weber wanted to talk about or circulate his effect he would have published it by now. As far as I know he has not. icy_rabbit - sounds like you have presentation around an effect. Good for you. ~ Dan |

But is it marketable? That is the real question here!

Consider how little of Del Ray's magic is in print or available by his consent. Did you know that most performers don's show around their working material for fear of being copied? I'll avoid the obvious reference to a certain coin trick which continues to tempt this generation of less than respectful conjurers. Freedom of speech... go ahead and speak of your own secrets if you wish, such IS your right, kind of. Constitutional law has been a bit strange even before President Bill Clinton asked us to consider what we mean by "is". To speak of another's secrets is not likely to make you seem honorable to others. BTW I saw Michael Weber do that routine at a convention in NYC back around 1978. It's not like he showed me the thing in private. Should he decide to release his works, I bet he would have significant interest to make a book and tour go well.

O'Malley, I read hundreds of very detailed descriptions of magic effects each week. I still purchase items from dealers, and books and pamphlets. Seeing Gretzky hit a slapshot, or hearing some one describe him doing so, does not automatically embody one with the power to perform that feat!

Icy, what makes an item interesting is how clean the thing looks and how well the script flows in performance. Think about the bill in lemon as example. If you have something ready to go, go for it!

I was trying to drop hints so as to prevent people from "borrowing" your interesting presentation, albeit by being slightly faceitious...sorry. That sort of thing happens all the time. Can't recall who it is who has the "knockoff" site of magic items/products, but it happens to people who HAVE taken the steps to prevent this sort of thing ie. marketed a product, ideally checking out the legality of it all first.

I would just make sure that you verify that the method is different from others out there. I know the effect Hottrix put out called Cupoodles was similar in effect but may be different from your method. If the magician couldn't find their bill/card then he would owe them dinner. The item was then found inside a double sealed cup of noodles container. However, the gimmick allowed you to put it in any industrial sealed package. (Chips bags, food boxes, etc.)

I do a Crackerjack routine. I never knew of Michael Weber's old thing.
