G'day, I was just wondering if someone could give me some advice on an old book I wish to sell. It is Maskelyne's Book of Magic by Jasper Maskelyne. It was published in 1936 and this is an Advance Proof Copy (I can't imagine there are many of these lying around!). The books pages are brownish from age and the cover has various spots and marks on it, but otherwise its in pretty good condition for a book that old. What I would like to know is where would be the best place to sell and item like that? I was thinking of EBay, but then thought I'd first check with some people here. Also what do you think an item like this would be worth?
Rumour has it that Tom Cruise was going to appear in a movie based on Jasper Maskelyne's life, based on the book The War Magician, but I don't know if that is going ahead now. cheers Andrew |

I don't now what it's worth, but I might be interested in buying.

Since you are in Australia, you probably have the UK edition published by Harrap. Unless there is some provenance in connection with the advance copy, it's probably not worth much more (if anything) than a 'regular' copy. Hard to really understand the condition without seeing the book, but my guess is that the book is probably worth between US$50 and 75, unless you happen to find two well-heeled folks who are keen on an advance copy in average condition. It's not a rare book by any means. A U.S. edition was published by David McKay in the same year, and both editions were issued with dust jackets.
