Davenports in London is rapidly going downhill in my estimation. Ever since James left, the level of service in there has been appalling. There's some 'young pup' in there who could not possibly be more unhelpful if he tried. Usually answers in one syllable.
I was in there, admittedly quite late-ish in the evening browsing through some books. I had three on the counter and was musing over which two to get when the elderley lady walked into the shop form the back and switched the display lights off as if making a statement. Then said, "If you're not buying, we are closed!" I've spent hundreds of pounds in there over the past few years and would regard myself as a regular customer and that is the thanks I get? Needless to say, I put the books down and walked out, never to return! :( |

I have never made it to their. I always shopped with Kaymar magic in Upminster, who have sadly moved now :-(
I had heard a many bad things from various people. don't know how true they are. But if they had said that to me, I would have been very rude towards her. I treat people as they treat me. |

The shop and the close vicinity share the same charm. Try to avoid Pete the begger and his crack smoking friends.

What a shame! I haven't been there in quite a while, but always used to love browsing, and watching people being demonstrated new tricks. Great fun.
Where do you now shop Roger? (personally think Alakazam's service is superb - never been to the shop though) Simon |

I agree with you about Alakazam though. I have been to their shop and had a natter with Peter Nardi. Very friendly, offered a cup of tea and gave me a discount on a multi purchase! I have used them on line in the past and WILL visit them again when I have business in the Ashford area. (same goes for The Card Collection - coincidentally on the same estate! Two birds with one stone so to speak, but a detrimental effect on yer crdit card! ) For the record, Alakazam have a healthy reputation for quality products. Probably the best out there. I just wished they had a Bedfordshire branch! RK |

Sincr I'm a canadian, I've been there once, during a vacation, I found it very pricey (probably due to tarrifs and importation costs) however, I found the staff to be very friendly/

That's the good thing about online magic shops. You don't have too prove yourself with a few tricks to get notice/service!!!

I went to Davenports once last year, and the guy (can't remember his name) was very friendly. He's the owner of the shop...
Anyway, where is Alakazam's shop??? Is it in London?? |

I believe its down in Kent - Peter Nardi is often around here - I am sure he will answer more. I'll certainly be venturing down there at some point.
