Hi,
Is anyone familiar with these CC Knives? I recently purchased them on E-Bay. I believe they have celluloid scales and may have been made in the 50’s. Any info about them would be appreciated. I bought them because they were unusual and wanted to add them to my growing collection of CC knives. click here Thanks, Bruce

Hard to tell from the photo, but the "white" ones look somewhat like Sanders knives. I can't see much with the black ones in the photo. However, I would have thought Mario would know if they were Sanders knives and would have identified them as such since they would have probably sold for much more.

Bill, I heard of the Sander knives...never seen them (at least that I am aware of). What is it about these knives that makes them so valuble? Mike |

I don't know all that much about knives, but don't the Sanders knives have small bolsters at each end? The ones pictured here don't seem to have that. Could be a natural variance in the Sanders knives, but I doubt it, since the bolsters are important, at least they are to me.
Mike, all I know about the Sanders knives I learned from this site: http://magicref.tripod.com/magref/artknife.htm The main advantage of these knives, IMHO, is that they are flat. I've found the side angles to be pretty restrictive on most sets. And, of course, they are otherwise well made, the scales cover the entire side, and the blades don't stick out. Whit, has anyone ever run a monte like this: Three identical pocket knives, blades opened, a little piece of paper is stuck on the backside of one blade. The mark wins or loses, depending on your whim and the paddle move.

Were those the pearloid scaled knives sold by Ernardo in the 40s and 50s. Seems like I had a set at one time. They don't look at all like Sander's Knives. Didn't Sander's knives say Sanders on one blade???? Any stamping on the blades anyplace??? Looks like that old pearloid they covered guitars with at some point early on.

I had to get out my old knives and look at them. Curtis, you are correct in stating that the Sanders knives have small bolsters at each end and in rechecking fccpf's photo, I can't see any bolsters on his knives. I guess it was the placement of the three rivets that made me think of Sanders knives when I looked at the photo.
Tabby - the Sanders knives have SAMCO stamped at the base of the largest of the three blades. I guess it stood for Sanders Manufacturing Company. Pete - you are correct in stating that the Enardoe's have rather large bolsters (metal ends). Mike - Curtis has given you what is prehaps the best reference on color changing knives. That is a great site for lots of other stuff as well. I guess what makes the Sanders knives so great is that they were real pocket knives and were very nicely made. They were a good size and shape They have held up very well over the years - the "pearl" knives still look like new. Other than the Enardoe's (which looked like cheap knives) the Sanders knives were the only game in town for a lot of years. I will try to remember to bring a set of them to Vegas next year so you can see them. |

Hi,
Thr knives are not Sander's or Enardoe's. THey do have something stamped on the blades. I am traveling now and don't have the knives with me, so it will have to wait till end of next week. Thanks for your input fellows. Bruce

I have a hunch that they may have been sold by Harry Stanley or Ken Brooke?
I have seen those knives before, somewhere... Bjørn

No idea whose knives these are or were. The Sander's knives did have ends on them much like the Enardoe knives. Sander's knife had one knife that the handle came off of easily. So you could do a black piece that could magically appear back on.
The Ken Brooke set I have is only 3 knives but are similar to the photo, in that the brown knife handle is callico style and the white has bone lines like the one pictured. |
