I just finished Gazzo's master class in Las Vegas. I had read the enthusiastic reviews of his other master classes, and so I went with very high expectations. To be candid, Gazzo exceeded my expectations. In teaching some of his signature effects--which I was very interested in learning--he shared insights about street performing and magic in general that completely revolutinized my approach to magic. He took tremendous care to make sure each person received the individual attention needed to understand the ideas and perform the effects he was teaching. What a terrific teacher! I was unaware of the depth of his knowledge and creativity regarding magic far beyond street performing. I am sorry he seems determined that this was his last master class. It was far and away the most productive and worthwhile experience I have ever had in magic.
One side benefit was the opportunity to get to talk with other magicians with a wide range of levels of experience who were in the class. It was a great group! After 2 very full days with Gazzo, we developed friendships I am certain will continue into the future. Unfortunately there is so much in magic that gets "overhyped" and doesn't come close to living up to advanced promises. It was refreshing to take the Gazzo class that delivered the goods and more. He is an incredible teacher and I wish him well. I have no doubt he will be a tremendous success where ever magic takes him in the future. Flimnar (Tom)

Tom, I am still in Las Vegas after the Master class and the whole experience was more than could be expected.
Cups and Balls, Cups and Balls, Cups and balls, but so much more! It was also great to get hands on help with some things that never seemed significant to me before (my false transfer had to be among the world's worst, but I never needd it before..) but Gazzo broke it down one on one, teaching me in a way that will definitely make it work. Gazzo in an incredible source of knowledge, and a gracious person. Sure, he prods you a bit, but in a good natured and constructive way. It was great meeting you Tom, and all of the other guys too. They were from Las Vegas (2), Idaho, Salt Lake city, OH, (That was me), Minnesota, and Sweden and Scotland by way of Los Angeles where they are enrolled in the Chavez course. Everything that everyone else had said before this class did, as Tom indicated set a high bar, but it was nearly immediately exceeded by what was learned. Gazzo's teaching style is extremely thorough as he shows you in logical steps what is needed, then he tells you, and shows you again, and then each student got a turn in front of the class to try out what he should have learned. And Gazzo leads that student through it. He has no unreasonable expectations, and goes right from the ground up. And he makes sure that everyone is caught up along the way. I have rarely felt so magically inept, but it was not really embarrassing or uncomfortable, it was simply revealing of the level of work I still need on cups and balls. But we had a 17 year old from Sweden who at at the end of the class, did a very nice start to finish cups and balls routine right through the final loads. Smart Alec Kid!! But seriously, it was a great encouragement to the rest of us. And after the class was over each day, the teaching continued. Any questions were answered. We got tipped on the Gentleman's Game, and much much more. And we were treated to a constant deluge of side splitting humor, jokes, stories, and sight gags by Gazzo that had us doubled over and falling out of our chairs. Gazzo confirmed that this was it. His last Master Class. So for those he didn't make it...sorry about your luck mates. But I am surely happy that I did it. I learned more about magic and entertaining in these two days, than I have over a number of years. BroDavid

I've been a student at classes from some of magic's best. On my short list for the near future is Bob Fitch's Master Class, Jamy Ian Swiss' Card-Clinic, and Gazzo's Master Class. I sure hope that things get to the point where Gazzo comes out of retirement to instruct some serious practitioners of this wonderful art again. If not, then this will be an enormous loss...

I would have loved to have attended but since I have yet to actually busk, I thought too much would have been lost on me.
Please tell me I was right!

Saheer,
Sorry friend but you are wrong. You missed something that would help you no matter whether you busk, or do stage work or something in between. I am doing far less busking than before, and am moving to a mentalism act so will be doing much less in the future, and I will think I got more than my money's worth at the Master class. Last night we had our IBM Ring meeting and a lot of the guys had gone to Detroit last weeked for the Motor City magic convention and Gazzo lectured, and all we did was swap Gazzo stories and laughed all night long. In just one lecture these guys became converts, and one said, he was so busy writing down Gazzos lines, he got writers cramp becasue the lines just kept coming. Look for him at conventions. I don't think he is retired from Magic, just from the street and the Master Classes. (I know he will correct me if I am wrong )So if you get the chance to catch him, don't pass it up. I was still pretty burned out from las Vegas, and my wife had already insisted that we attend a Marriage Seminar last weeked, or I would have been there in Detroit with the other guys. (And the truth is that I weighed the consequences pretty heavily, before I decided not go to Detroit anyway..) BroDavid

I hate being wrong. Oh well - I'll look for conventions where he's scheduled to make an appearance. Sorry to contribute to "thread creep," but how extensive was his lecture at the Motor City Convention?

I would hope that someone who attended his lecture couold comment, but although I didn't go, I heard it was a "noormal" lecture, so I am guessing it was about an hour.
But then, for those brave of heart, who hadn't yet gotten their Gazzo fix satisfied, he also had a special 4 hour workshop at extra cost, and friends who have attended these before at other conventions have been well pleased with the content. BroDavid
