I saw a knots off silk routine several years ago and I am now trying to find it. It was the standard routine the you tie the knots on the silk, pull them off and show the silk to have holes in the silk. The part I am looking for is the second phase. He then took three different color silks and pushed in his hands with the other silk. When the silk was open the holes where filled in with the other color silks.
Has anyone seen this routine. If so do you know who might sell it. |

The off color fill in was an idea of Pavel I believe. Mystique used to make it.
I can make the knots off silk but I am not sure I would want to make the other until I find out who owns the idea. Richard

Tim,
You'll find that I sent you a PM. Knots Off Silk has been a favorite of mine for many years. Hopefully, the folks at http://magicdmv.com will soon produce a DVD for the market in which I offer several routining ideas for Knots Off Silk. Production is about two weeks away. Ricker is probably keeping a list of people waiting. (Pre orders will get a free 24" silk.) Good Luck! Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

Bob,
Nice looking site! I know your ideas will be "keepers" born out of experience. I look foward to this product making its debut.

Way to go, Bob! Maybe I should give this "mentalism thing" a shot --- I think it was just about two weeks ago that I asked if your silk lecture would be making it to DVD soon. So here's one of the chapters, hmm? I, too, am looking forward to your DVD.

Thanks Ed; that's worth a lot coming from you. Ricker will keep me peddling as hard as I can to keep up. We have lots of studio time to go.
The early plan is producing these five DVDs to be sold separately or with the props. They are not just prop instructions but routines for shows using these with other props as the show transitions from trick to trick and making use of what is left. The five are: Routining Knots Off Silks Routining Silk Fountains Routining THIS (Improved version) Routining with Streamers and Line of Silks and Routining with 4-Color Change Silks Ricker doesn't believe in sleep! But then there are the Tabman and Michael Baker always there wanting to know when are we going to catch up and what's next? Aren't we late? You'd think we were magicians! At least I'm in good company. Bob Magic By Sander |

Bob,
This should be interesting. I guess I will have another set of "silk expert" tapes to add to the collection. A welcome addition. BTW, I have heard that the Rice's Encyclopedias will not be reprinted. So if you want a real book instead of the cd rom, you better get it now. Richard

Jimmy and Richard,
Thank you for the association. It is a stretch! I'll try not to be too big a source of embarrassment to the other guys. Harold Rice* was one of my real heroes of magic and art. Pavel and I (we have never met in this life) should have been on the same medication! (Lucy, my wife is a physician. She thinks our thought patterns are on the weird side. "Think funny" is her polite term for it. Of course she uses live unicorns in her show! There's a test of sanity. Then there is her chimp named Darwin! How would we know what's normal?) See Jimmy, "mental" is the operational term here. You hit it right on the ... Actually someone looking at these DVDs just to learn tricks would be better off just buying the props. My emphasis is routining them into sets, complete shows and show segments with other tricks, props and bits. These are about getting use from the props. That comes a lot easier for some of us than others. Perhaps this will help someone else get started getting started. I hope that I am planting seeds rather than harvesting trees. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander *Richard you are an artist too. You understand how I hate to see the Harold Rice books disappear from print. They are works are graphic art. (For years I owned a printing business in Tuscaloosa too. I would have loved being Harold Rice's printer. Instead I got a valued friend. So I gave the printing business to the University of Alabama. Roll Tide! I guess I hope Harold's spirit will slip back and use it.) |

Bob, I am so glad your focus will be on routining. The process of routining (both before performance and during performance) is so essential. So I am so pleased that you will be focusing on this. I will definitely be picking up your DVD's as well.
Jimmy P.S. That's a bummer about Rice's Encyclopedia of Magic! Even though I find the CD-ROM handy in some ways, the books are truly a treasure.

Roll tide? I don't use that brand of soap.

And would you believe that DoveLite got an order for purple and gold silk tricks? Included are 20th Century Silks (18") and Knots Off silks. This order goes to Louisianna. I hope Harold Rice never knows they aren't red and white. Good thing they weren't printed 16-13. That would about do it! Well, I have get ready for a funeral. Enjoy your silk magic.
