Hello all,
I've been looking for a good bit that would use 4 or more children onstage at the same time. I have used afew bits on a regular basis, but in looking for a new routine, I've come up dry. Can anyone think of a routine using 4 or more spectators? The only requirement is that they would have to be part of the magic. Simply standing there to hold one of my props is not what I'm looking for. Thanks, Mike

Jim Gerrish's Kid Magic has three kids and a Mom participating in "Star Warts" and five kids, or four kids and a Dad participating in "Horse Play."
In The Wizards' Journals, issue # 3 has "Dream Catcher" which takes place around a real or staged campfire and can take as many as 12 participants. Nine kids can play the part of Santa's reindeer (wearing balloon hat "antlers" and black spongeball noses - except for Rudolph, of course). They are looking for Santa who has to be found before they can start their trip, so you also need a Santa Claus for them to find in the fireplace (Bryce's screen modification).

Thanks all,
Spellbinder, can you tell me the effects involved in those tricks you listed. Knowing the title only helps so far. The Christmas routine sounds good though. I'm not really looking to purchase a new effect I'm just looking for a bit of buisness I can perform using standard props. I did one routine with a changebag and candy canes with all 4 kids dipping into the bag and I would always get a different coloured candy cane until the final phase where everyone got a brown candy cane. Another effect involved a spelling routine which had 6 kids all holding a letter and taking part in the magic. Mike

Johnny magic: I use big bull dog clips to put on the edge, sometimes I use an odd colour one to put on the middle one.

Thought of it with three kid monte and I might try out your suggestions sometime. I like to use lots of volunteers. I've had shows where kids get upset if they don't get picked and at a small birthday party it's nice to let every child get a turn to help. I like to use the change bag with balloons. The kids always pick the same color balloon but I show them to be all different colors. The ending is a twisted balloon mouse or dog is picked by the birthday child and all the balloons vanish. I got the idea from Tom Burgoone at a lecture once.

Cutting a child in half with grandmother's necklace easily gets you three - the fourth can be added to "catch the top half of the victim... errr I mean volunteer" or someother comedic purpose.

I love the ropes through body routine Andrew, and I have been doing it in numerous different ways for years now. That is a great routine that can always be dressed up to fit just about any theme.

If you can make balloon hats, there is always the "Circus Parade." One kid gets to be an elephant (balloon hat with big ears and a trunk), another kid is the giraffe (tall orange hat with giraffe head way up on top), you can have a clown, a gorilla, a man-eating plant, and so on.
A variation of this is to introduce the "Amazing Trained Elephants!" You do this several times and no trained elephants appear, so you decide to make some trained elephants out of kids. You give them all elephant balloon hats, get them to stand up on one leg, roll over, play follow the leader and basically pretend to be trained elephants in a circus. It's lots of fun.

I get at least 3 people up on stage when I do my comedy professors nitem, are routine. The idea is the 3 people represent 3 different characters in a story I am telling that each of them helps act out as I am telling the story. Each of them has different parts they pantomime to based upon what I am saying in the story. It is a very funny bit with a lot of audience interaction. I dress each character up in appropriate attire to help them remember their parts. It gets a lot of kids involved in a fun way.
