In Australia, Casino security beat up enough people for it to be considered a problem. Heck, some guys beat up a TV camera man for filming outside of the casino actoss the street!

As long as their are violent people there will be violent retribution for people who cheat.

I myself was the victim of a savage beating when I admitted that we only won at 500 the other night because I stacked the deck everytime I dealt (and a few times I didn't. Our friends kept asking me to shuffle because it was so 'fancy'). She didn't notice that she always had the two bowers and the joker when I shuffled.

It wasn't an ethical thing. She just wanted to win because she was better the our friends, not because I let her!

I think Steve Forte said it best in his G.B.S. tapes "Cheating at cards is one of the most tolerated crimes in the United States today" ( not sure if the quote is exact but it will be close).
Also George Joseph relates an interesting storie in "HAND MUCKNG" wherein the person doing the catching takes the beating .
At any rate the idea that repercussions are myth is a dangerous mistake and one which requires a great deal of judgement and awareness of your environment in order to avoid ( and luck) .
As far as the idea of "turning one around on the casino"...this is a popular fantasy . I have seen a blooper tape put together by a suveillance dept. of a high volume casino to highlight all the attempts people make to inspire false claims (accidents etc.) .Casino's have a great deal of experience dealing with this foolishness so I wouldn't suggest it . As far as faking a muck to get backroomed unjustly....you're just dreaming.....and God forbid you should luck out and walk into the one joint where you will get everything you hoped for and then some . Any casino that mishandles their suspected patrons (violence) isn't a casino that is going to leave you with a case ( if such a casino exits ) , you don't know what your up against.
Back to the private games and the quote from Steve Forte : I believe that in most cases his quote will bear it self out for one reason or another .( My earlier warning is because it only takes one fire to change your life .) One of the main reasons cheating is tolerated is because people just aren't familiar enough with catching a cheat to know how to handle the situation. Quite often they are stunned , and will question themselves (did I really see that) . You can't really know what I'm saying untill you've experienced it for yourself . Have you ever been in denial when you first heard a co-worker you liked stole from your company ? Did you ever have trouble accepting that a spouse or girl / boy friend was cheating on you ? You may think these scenarios to be different from catching a cheat in a friendly game because there is less (or no) emotional attatchment , but the average person who realizes someone is cheating in their game gets hit with suprise which can have a similar effect . By the time they figure out what they should do or how to respond ,the cheat has detected the "reaction" and has engaged evasive manouvers.
A sure tip off is the initial dirty look or stare of disbelief that you will get while the person says to themselves "you $ h ! t , I can't believe you just did that..." . Then they look to see if anyone else noticed .(keep in mind ,this refers to plays that leave them with no proof , as soon as it is done , it's done). By this time you know you've been popped and judge yourself accordingly.

I just read american roulette which was written by a guy who cheated in casinos for 25 years. he was never arested and his record is clean. he says that no one gets anything done to them. the only place you have to worry about it was in Asia. in his book he talks about the many times he was in the back room and was released.
you can fool all of the people some of the time and some of the people all the time but never all of the people all the time.

In volume 7 of Daryl's Encyclopedia Of Card Sleights, Daryl says that the people who have been caught ended up with prison terms, cut off hands, broken bones and worse. That's some pretty smart advice. I'd listen to that, before considering cheating in a real game where high stakes are involved.
All the best,

Michael

If he was never caught, and never arrested, how do we know he cheated? Are you just taking his word for it?

There was a History Channel Special on him with several notable gaming figures, including Andy Anderson, formerly with Griffin Investigations. I think it's safe to say the guy cheated, but whether or not he stole as much as he claimed he did is certainly debatable.

On a separate note, Mr. Haydn, were you ever on an episode of Deadwood by chance? I saw the picture on your site, but I've only seen the first season. Great show regardless. Smile

Yeah the book seemed legit. he says that the mob is out of vegas and the worst that can happen is 10 years in prison. which is pretty bad

In the old days when guys faded the white line, you didn't even have to cheat to get shot, as a matter of fact you were lucky if you could get out to your car with your winnings without getting shot.

I think it's a stretch to presume that, just because these guys now sit at the Bellagio every night, they wouldn't deal with a cheater at their table exactly the same way they used to in the "good old days".
Just because the casino doesn't deal with you the old fashioned way, doesn't mean your fellow players at the table won't catch up to you a little later in the evening, or perhaps tomorrow.......and if they're to old to take care of it, well then I'm sure they could hire a local "service".

Getting the crap beat out of you, or worse, is part of cheating and getting caught..........if you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

The late 1800's wasn't that long ago, and the riverboat solution was particularly gruesome if you got caught cheating. It may not be quite that bad today, but then I supose that's totally dependant on who you cheated.

Here's a cute little story, happend right in my own back yard.(almost literally)

http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=402986

How would you do if Mr Woods and "Meatball" took you for a little ride? Would you pee your pants on account of a cowardly soul? Better find out, if your gonna cheat big. Better find out even if your gonna cheat small.

Sort of funny that the cheat did not return the $20,000.00, and that the thug is facing charges that could cost him $55,000.00, and 32 years in jail. This guy, Woods, is an idiot.

I wonder if his pal, "Meatball", is going to have his back in the joint....

Don't drop the soap, loser.
