I have mainly been performing Mentalism of late and have decided I need to return to our great innovators. I have two acts in the works, a complete mental show and a Classical Manipulation and Magic Act. I want to evoke the feelings people may have felt going to see a show by Kellar, Thurston or Leipzig. I want the second act to be, in a few words, a Victorian Magic Show. I would like to do some dove work, card manipulation, ball manipulation, a few illusions, and perhaps an escape and Spirit Cabinet. I am new to stage magic, but am well versed in close-up and Mentalism. I also would like to learn some classic routines from Slydini, Malini, etc. I would also like to perform an excellent Cups and Balls Routine. I ask you to all give me your opinions on where to learn the things I'd like to perform. Also, how many routines should be in a stage act? Where can I learn some Slydini routines? What DVDs and books will teach me good manipulation? What DVDs and books will teach me escape? How about illusion? By the way, feel free to PM me. Thanks a lot.
Cheers, mackmania

You have way to much on your plate. Narrow it down to one thing at a time.

You're right Graham. I've decided to stick with the Mentalism and perfect it.

You like both Mentalism and manipulation--great so do I- However
You'll get more benefit from concentrating or focusing on one show to start off with Not only due to the cost of buying the props for 2 different shows- Although menatlism doesn't cost as much as grand illusions. Also the cost of marketing 2 really different shows. So have a good look at the main audience you wish to perform for and desing an act that will go with that audience--- you'll get much more work and more enjoyment. Then you build up the other act. It's better to have 1 really good act instead of 2 average shows. Plus if you do the manip show you can remove some of the bulk illusions and replace with a good solid entertaining mental magic piece and it won't cost you as much to transport (which is my big headache at the moment for corporate shows) I'm getting rid of my bulky stuff and going for more manipulation magic as it is easy to transport and at the end of the day I enjoy it more. For help in Mentalism- You should look at penny for your thoughts cheers Darth David |
