A couple of Power bars for energy, or stand in meals in case of unexplained scheduling issues. They go in the tool box.

Tums, immodium AD, aspirin or tylenol, a spray bottle of all purpose cleaner with paper towels, a small mirror, breath mints, brush ups (they are relatively new here in the US also, icentertainment) duct tape, gaffer's tape, glow in the dark tape, electrical tape, touch up paint and brushes, hair brush, sewing kit, first aid kit, tool kit, safety pins, door stop, flashlights.
I know I'm forgetting some stuff too. All of these are small items that fit in a wheeled toolkit I bought from Home Depot for $20.00. |

I agree. I always make sure I carry a few rolls with me at all times. It has saved me many many times. I think I have found uses for duct tape that others may have not even realized. hehe You will be amazed what you can come up with when you are in a real bind and need a quick solution.

Based on what I've seen here, looks like another suitcase would be in order, too, JUST TO CARRY IT ALL!

Illusionist Terry Evanswood does just that. He has a large ATA, half with parts and the other half a mix of items.

I carry photos of my checked magic trunks (for when they get lost in luggage)and fly to my destination a day early. I also carry glow in the dark tape and a small flashlight that has a glow in the dark case for my smaller stage shows.
I always carry Arnica Gel and Arnica Tablets for bruises and injuries in my first aid kit alongside butterfly bandaids.
Wonder is very necessary in life. When we're little kids, we're filled with wonder for the world - it's fascinating and miraculous. A lot of people lose that. They become cynical and jaded, especially in modern day society. Magic renews that wonder.

SUPER GLUE! everybody forgot about that one, One, you can use it for a stunt, the other thing is, you can fix any broken gear, and in a pinch use it in the place for stitches.
Staplegun and extra staples, for hanging signs, flyers, and attaching tips. Stiptic Pencil (for the staplegun after getting the tips) Extra case of water (I did a show at a nightclub, and drank all of their bottled water, how weird is that) Flashlight Clamp lights/Job lights. When the Venue fails to have the lighting system set up, or the people that normally run stuff aren't there. And last but mostly not least. A bullhorn. The venue I was performing at back in october, took out their sound system on the stage I was on for some reason, so I scampered to my truck for a bullhorn, roll of duct tape, and a mike stand. It didn't work well, but it worked better than nothing. Extra copys of contract And Multitools |

Here are a few items I always take to a show.
- A good book for the trip. - An MP3 player for some tunes. - A small closeup mat for planes, trains and automobiles. (They REALLY should come with one...) - I take A notebook and a pen EVERWHERE. I can't tell you how often I've seen a broken table on the side of the road that has inspired a future illusion idea. - Extra tablecloths, curtains and drapes. You never know when you'll need to cover up a speaker that the venue refuses to move because they spent 3 hours trying to figure out how to plug it in. Might as well cover it up and make it fit in. - A small CD player and some good CD's for that setup time before the sound booth has been opened. - GLOW TAPE! I haven't seen this one mentioned yet. I practically LIVE on the stuff. - Business cards and promotional items. If anything to give to the box office so they spell your name correctly on the Marquee. - FRISK breath mints. I always have some right inside my suiit jacket. It's also fun to offer to a spectator when working a dinner theatre. Gets a laugh every time. - DEODORANT. This one explains itself. Always make sure you smell nice before walking on that stage and baking under the lights all night. A comb and hair gel is also good to have around. - A couple little boxes of chocolates. I always like to bring a little gift to the box office staff when I visit a theatre. They always apprecite the gesture and when you think about it, usually the person in charge of booking entertainment works out of that office and will hear nothing but good things about you and your gift giving.

I'd like to second the suggestion of "another show." You get to the street festival and the flatbed truck that was going to be the stage hasn't arrived. OK, I have my busker's table and street show. Ooops, here's the flatbed, better late than never. Back to the stage show then. They didn't get the fire permit so that's out. That's OK, I have extra material.
All of this happened last weekend. I got additional radio coverage because I couldn't do the fire eating, the DJs really wanted to see that and couldn't stop talking about it. Always pack another show - closeup, street, silent, whatever. What they say will be there might not! You want to make them look good, even if they screw up. Yours, Paul |

This is great stuff. I think the idea here is not to say everyone needs to carry all of this. I think the idea is that these are suggestions of what other performers carry with them that they have found helpful and that are a benefit to them to have with them at all times. I think the list here is wonderful and can aid anyone looking through it to see what he or she may want to add to their own kits. It is all about being prepared for everything and anything and learning from past experiences. I was a boyscout so I always knew to be prepared and I try to have my shows like that as well.
Keep it coming folks. This list is wonderful and informative. Kyle

If you perform any shows at all (either internationally or within a 5 mile radius of your house), it is my humble opinion that you should own a copy of Randy Pryor's book "Road Warrior: The Professional Traveling Entertainer's Survival Guide".
I do not know Randy and have no vested interest in this product. However, I can tell you that it has saved me and made life much more comfortable on several occasions. You can read more about it, along with some samples at: http://www.websites4magicians.com/randypryor/tesg.html This is definitely an item that you "don't leave home without" - and it's small so it takes up very little space in your case. |
