Does anyone know of a source for the "Smashed" cigarette through quarter gimmick that Derek Dingle performed?
Any information would be appreciated! |

If it's the same as Dingle's "New Wave Cigarette Thru Coin" you can find it in Kaufman's The Collected Almanac.

Thanks, Larry...
BUT, I'm looking for the Smashed gimmick, itself. |

Smashed and stabbed is available from a lot of magic shops. Try YFD.

What is this? Aside from a cig thru 1/4? Never heard of this one. What's it like?

It's still available from the Camirand Academy:
http://www.camirandmagic.com/rt_004.html You do know that Dingle used two different gimmicks, right?

Actually Dingle's gaff (as sold) had more than just a hole through it. It was "punched" so that it looked a bit like the "realistic" Karate coin.
Dingle's idea was that the audience would assume a coin with a hole, so he exposed 'the gaff' after doing the trick. Then he took the "real" quarter and said, "If I could really do it, it would look like this..." and did it with the Johnson's quarter. |

Yeah, I knew that, but try finding a real "smashed" quarter for sale anywhere convenient. Besides, I've always thought the routine would work almost as well with the Berlenger gaff, and it wouldn't "eat a hole in your pocket".

Im sorry I have done Cig Thru Quarter for years. Pretty much the only way I new how. I use the regular Johnson Gimmick. Now I'm trying to use Garrett Thomas Handiling from "ANY QUESTIONS?" VHS... I hae never sen any other method. What are the pro's and cons from this Thread? And as I read above from OUR friend Curtis if your using more then one Gimmick. isn't that adding more work? Again I have never seen the above methods.. Any answers would be greatly appreciated?

Paisa23,
Without detailing Derek's handling here, I have to say his routine is the most devious and psychologically devastating for the cig through coin effect I've ever seen. After having done the cig through coin for many years, Derek realized that the spectators consistently had a certain thought in mind, and he set out to find a way to destroy this thought before it could arise. It's sheer genius. Cheers, Lance |

Tom Niesen of the long defunct "Mystic Madness Supply" company had the quarters made for the Dingle routine LONG ago - probably in the early 1980s. I used to have a bunch of them. I'll check to see if I still have any left.
Tom was the guy who had Arrco Cards in Chicago make up all the gaffs e.g. double this and that, blank etc. He pushed the Tahoe and Club Casino cards along with the factory made matching gaffs. Hmm... where are those blasted coins... Mike
