Best Silk Effect:
I have to say, the one I do that gets the most reaction is (well, I don't know the name, I bought it old & used with no paperwork), the one where you open the door to show 2 silks tied to a rod, you remove the two silks, close the door, then the 2 silks vanish and then end up immediately behind the door again, tied to the rod! It's a-w-e-s-o-m-e. So what the heck is it called, and what is your favorite silk illusion? aaron |

I like the silk effect Frankie the snowman put out by P and A silks. It is a version of mismade flag but uses a theme of a snowman and the children helping you build the snowman. They create different size snowballs and thrown them into your snowball catcher (change bag). However the snowballs are all mixed up and not in any order. Your audience helper (dressed in a scarf and comedy ski goggles) helps you out. The second time you get the snowballs stacked but they are upside down. The 3rd time you add in the elements of a good snaowman and it comes out as an outline. Finally you add the color to show a full 36" snowman scene. It is great for children and such a nice difference from the classic mismade flag and perfect for the holidays.

Hi:
I think you may be refering to the "Fantastic Silk Cabinet". Milson-Worth made a well-known version with a matching Silk Cabby. I've noticed more recently that there are a couple of India-made versions on ebay and other sites. The Milson-Worth version worked very well; it was a two-tone blue color scheme. I'd say my favorite silk effect is still 20th Century Silks. Ron |

Aaron -
I have that prop, and when I purchased it, it was called "Fantastic Frame". It can be used with a matching "Silk Cabby". I tie 3 silks, which are removed from the rod, and can re-appear knotted on it. I have an identical set in blue, but am not sure if they are really Milson-Worth props. My favorite silk effect is blendo, with no change bag (gimmicked silk). Red, Blue and Yellow 18" become a 36" blendo, which I can show on both sides. I use a lot of different silk magic in my shows, such as Mismade Santa Claus, Drawer Box (routine where I produce a lot of silks), Square Circle (another routine for an alternate show, where I produce a lot of silks, including doing a blendo in the Square Circle, from 3 36" silks to one 72" silk), Clarence the Caterpillar, Clatter Box (with a silk transposition from a switch can back to the box), etc. - Donald

Thanks guys, looks like it might be a Fantastic Frame, or a Fantastic Cabinet depending on the creator. It is fantastic either way.
Donald, I have that blendo too! Except mine is 4 colors red, blue, green, yellow. I did a church event last year for a group called Awana, they have 4 teams divided into 4 those exact color groups!. So I changed the normal way I do the blendo and I actually got hold of 4 regular silks in the same colors. I brought up a member from each team color and gave them their "flag" color to wave and get their team rooting. Then I put them one at a time in my cabby. When I put each silk in the side hole, I told them that I was going to attempt to find a winning team color, as the colors would "race" each other to get out of the other hole on the other side. The teams were all rooting for their color. Then I shook the box to mix them up & reached in the other hole, I slowly pulled out the silk, at first the Yellow team thought they had won as the saw their color come out first, but then the other colors followed and as I opened the silk, the room gasped at the blended colors. Of course here you explain that they are all the same team ultimately...then they want you to open the box and prove it's empty which of course you put up a fight, and then comply. It was a lot of fun and fit into their theme perfectly. |

Cool share about the Awana idea, Aaron. Great illustration of a message.

I just purchased this Fantastic Silk Cabinet using 3 different colored silks. I didn't know that was the name until I found this thread. I have no instructions and have never seen it performed. Where I can I see a performance or get a some good patter?

I have wanted a 3 color blendo for some time, but all I can find are 4-color blendos. As for my favorite silk effect, that's hard to say because there are so many good ones I love. 20th Century Silks and Duke's Dye Version are 2 of my favorites. Regan

I picked up my blendo about 9-10 years ago at Morrissey Magic (in person). Although I usually order by mail, I happened to be in Toronto for a special event, and visited the store. I don't ever recall seeing it listed in their catalog. When I saw it, I knew it was something I was looking for. I still don't know who made it (no name on instruction sheet). - Donald
