Fabian,

Please allow me to clarify.

Speak to a shadow ...yes. ( I do it all the time in this forum and in PM's, I don't need to know who you are to talk about magic ) Debate with a Shadow...No.

Best,

Tim

Fabian,

at the risk of sounding off topic, what kind of music do you like?

And name your top 5 movies? I don't follow much of music but
my favorite movies are:

1. Raiders of the Lost Ark
2. North By Northwest
3. Rear Window
4. Casablanca
5. Shadow of a Doubt.

Just checking your taste or level of art appreciation... even if I didn't name the music I like yet, I would appreciate it if you name yours.
I would, however contest that there is in REALITY very little pportunity to perform what could actually be termed "close-up" magic.

I have a funny feeling I know where this is heading.......

Anywhom, if it pleases you so much.

Top 5 Movies
1.Schindler's List
2.Amores Perros
3.Mysterious Skin
4.Friday
5.Suicide Club (From the way I took it.If you take it from the back of the box and it doesn't hit you in a personal level , you probably won't like it.)

Music-EVERYTHING. Mainly mainstream tho or a bunch of groups you might of heard about but never bothered checking out.

Rap-Cause I am part of "the struggle".I can raise my right fist up because I have lived in the ghetto. I know how harsh poverty can be.ARTIST-COMMON(Favorite),Notorious BIG, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Tupac, etc...

Rock and Metal-Cause I love the energy and I am a musician. It hits me high and really low.Artist-Jane's Addiction, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Radiohead, Dave Navarro, Fear Factory, Strapping Young Lad, Caifanes, Jaguares, Pantera, etc...

Pop-Cause of the realness and normal life it gives me. Artist-John Mayer, Julieta Venegas, Café tacuba,Chris Isaak, Aqualung, etc...

JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING.

Rockabilly, Punk,Some jazz, and even classic once in a while(Specially piano solos.)They are a great way to relax.Name it and I probably know something about it. Again I AM A MUSICIAN too.

If you want to talk estereotypes about the way I dress and look. You CAN'T find one. I wear from clothes girls would like to wear to the "rockstar" look.
I also actively make some of my own clothes.

I do have long hair and a couple of facial piercings.(Lip and eye.)Love to work out and read plenty of magazines.Play soccer, and love to be with my family. Try to stay humble as much as I can and never forget about the sick among the pure in this world. Believe everyone MUST help the weak and powerless.Oh and I LOVE the internet cause of all the info it gives me.

etc....

Anything else?Favorite paintings?Favorite comedians?Favorite.......(your choice.)

I am an artist. Magic is the one I do best and love the most.

I don't have problems with your choices in the other performing arts.....

Looks like we're only gonna have differences in our opinions about the man I wanted to let people see in by posting this thread... Smile

By the way, since you're really serious about art, then you should be cautious as NOT to love yourself in the art but to love THE ART in yourself. If you don't already have a copy of Absolute Magic by Derren Brown, I highly recommend it. Smile

I will take the whole post as positive as it WAS. Smile

I like to get critique and I will reflect on what you said. Tho I am pretty much into myself and that is just a quality about me.

Eugene Burger is usually the ONLY magician I agree with but I have yet to get absolute magic. Will make sure to pick it up.

Laters.

I am sorry but you do not even have the correct definition for what art is.
By not correct I mean to say that you are trying to say it is only supposed to evoke emotion.
There is more to art than that. It isn't just some entertainment tool where audience sits and charges up their emotion during the act and then feels relief as they relieve it.

I'm sorry if you can't appreciate history or things of the olden days; but take a close look at all the things that's been going on - do you agree that without the history, there is no present?

Appreciating "classy" doesn't mean whorshipping them. I don't think a large portion of public would be so keen to see Lance's act for the "wow" factor. It is the aesthetic part of the routine which still holds appeal. Furthermore, what is most remarkable about the routine is that the dove manipulation seemed like real magic. No sleight of hand, no tv magic, no editing, nothing fishy.

I do agree that there are more high impact routine/shows around. Sure, times have changed, thing have gotten flashier. That, is not true art. What steps towards the nature of the mind have we taken by having a person and blowing him through the wall with a car? Sure its an AMUSEMENT art. But that's all it is, amusement art.

Lastly, I'd like to point out that Lance's act wasnt viewed by a roomfull of magicians only group. You saw their reactions after the routine didn't you?

Just because it doesn't have the eyepopping factor does not mean its boring or out of date. Even if, just because its out of date it cannot be appreciated.

Please excuse me if I misunderstood any of what you wrote. My english isn't very good.

Also it seems that you picked on music "MUSIC THAT NO ONE EVEN LIKES" understand that there are many people who DO like those types of music. Especially for the audience he was playing for, the type of music was probably very approperiate.
