Steve, we already knew you were crazy. (lol) Now as far as going crazier? I am not sure you could get to a further level of craziness. But if anyone can do it.. you can. (lol) Just kidding my friend. Steve: will you be at the IBM/SAM Combined convention this year?

I viewed several elements as ripoffs of Copperfield. When Wyrick said Letterman had to get a permit for the performance and then said, word-for-word from Copperfield's Death Saw, "So if something goes wrong, it's all your fault." The same line was used when Copperfield borrowed a hairpin to pick the locks. Sparks coming from the gadgetry when it "goes wrong" and the blades drop prematurely, etc.

If I had a dollar for every magician who has used the "it's all your fault" line (some when Copperfield was still in diapers) , I'd...I'd...well, I'd have lots of dollars. Smile

DC was not the first to use that line, and he obviously won't be the last.

Not sure about anyone else, but I thought the blades of death was not necessarily the best choice for the Letterman Show. Felt like a lot of downtime from the beginning to the end. The stage seemed very dark, that may not lend itself well to the illusion either. Just my opinion.

I agree with sean on this one. He performed it very well and the presentation was really good. I had no problems with that at all. I just felt the size of that illusion made the stage look so cluttered and cramped. Almost like it was forced into that space just to get it to work. I would have thought he might have wanted to go with something smaller in size and still have good impact but not an illusion that takes a longer time for the climatic moment. he did do a great job with it though.

I agree. Steve does a piece with an underwater production that is fantastic and an artist dream piece that is a masterpiece. Those would have been better choices in my opinion.

I agree. Something that is still strong visual magic but would have been more appropriate for the stage space and the timing he had to do it.

I liked it.

It has to be a very difficult choice for these performers who seldom get the opportunity to appear on top shows like Letterman. Therefore, you'd obviously want to sell them your "biggest" effect. Both Dirk Arthur & Wyrick trucked in the big stuff for these appearances, because they knew the value of the exposure.

I also felt that the show director did an awesome job with the camera work. Very well done, especially given the probable lack of rehearsal time.

I thought Steve did a great job.

Oh he absolutely did a great job with what he had to work with. I agree in wanting to do your best stuff. I just felt the stage was very small for the amount of stuff he had on it was all.
