Now here is a GREAT topic !
I'm not too sure this is actually the section it should be in but.... BM - what type of "props" are you looking to insure ? there are many different possibilities for insirance coverage. Where are you props located ? in a warehouse, your garage ? etc What dollar amount are you looking to insure you stuff for ? This plays a HUGE factor when figuring a premium as well as the type of insurance you are looking to get - I carry an inland marine policy on my entire show - please keep in mind that we carry approx $200,000 worth of gear when we are on tour. When my equipment in stored in the warehouse, I have a completely different package - I work extremely close with my agent to make sure I am covered on the different types of events ( shows) that we are associated with. feel free to email me with any questions.... steven@stevenkline.com

Steven Kline can give you the low down on what you need.
We too have an Inland Marine policy. Like he said the dollar amount will be the biggest determining factor in your annual premium. Other factors can be...is the equipment always under your supervision or does it ship without you often. You probably don't have too much control over this...either you typically ship everything or it is almost always under your supervision. What deductible do you want...the lower the number the higher the premium. Do you have an extremely high priced item, like a $25,000 or higher piece of equipment...this can affect your rate. What they are doing is a risk assesment on you, your equipment and the situations it may come under. I'll give you our scenario...while not as high as Steven's number, we are well into a six figure coverage...the equipment is almost always under our supervision, as we own our own rig and drive it ourselves. When in a theatre for more than one day, like a short run for example, the theatre having secured the building properly makes us covered. Our Freightliner rig has an alarm system on it, which was required by the insurance company to get the rate we wanted. Hope that helps...like Steven said...he can help you here. Happy New Year!!! Kevin
