I've tried using Outlook, Act!, and Word for email merge. But none of them seem to allow me to insert a merge field into the subject line. Does anyone recommend any programs that allow me to custumize the subject line of the email with the person's name, etc?

An ACT application software will do mail merge easily and efficiently for you. You can set up an e-mail template and insert not only a personalized name, but also personalized information based upon fields in your database. It works very well and it woiuld be worth you taking a look at.Let me knoe if I can be of further help to you.

ACT is a program or software that is out on the market that is a direct contact management software. It is a way to keep track of every client, prospect, suspect or customer you have or are in contact with. You can create customized templates to create the fields and data fields that are of most help to the way you run your own magic business. You then can track everything from their phone number and adress, to how many shows you have done for the, any referrals they sent you etc. I then can also tracjk any and all e-mailor other coorispondence and have methods for running full reports on any of the information in the database.
It will also allow you to set up mail templates where you can personalize every e-mail that goes out by the use of the ail-merge feature that is built into the program. I use ACT all the time and would be lostwithout it. It makes that much of a difference in the way I do things. If you have any questions regarding about it, please let me know. I would to be able to help you out. Kyle

Dean,
I dropped him an email and haven't heard back from him. I reviewed the info I could find on WorkHorse mailer. From what I can tell, you cannot customize the subject line. So all recipients get the same subject line. I have found one program called "Mail Merge Tool Kit" from MAPILab that should work. I'll let everyone know how it works out. I agree with Kyle that ACT! is very useful for sending email to many recipients. You just can't send it with their name or a personal greeting in the subject line. Which, I think will help get my emails viewed by the recipients. Edd

I wangt to pose a question if I will. I am posing this question, because I have not tried it out myself and others may have and may have tracked the results.
I am wondering the success rate anyone has had with a personalized subject line in an e-mail? I also wonder if some spam filters would immeditely see this and consider it spam. Just food for thought as I have not tried or tested it myself and was curious if anyone else has. Kyle

Kyle,
I am currently testing this. I've sent an email to a specific group of people with out a personalized subject line. Next week, I'm going to send another one to the same group with a personalized subject line and I'll let you know the results. Edd

Edd,
Thanks. Please let us know how it goes for you and what the results are. You might also want to do a test where you send out a normal subject line to one group and the personalized subject like to a different group enirely. This way you are not having the problem of people possibly not opening it becuase they think they have seen your stuff before and are not intersted. Just a thought to get an even more diverse test result. I will be fascinated to hear what you come up with and what you find out. I am also proud of the fact that you are actually taking action upon yourself to test these things and really learn from them. That is always the way to not only grow your magic, but grow yourself as well. Let us know what you discover. Kyle

Edd,
Just so you know... You most certainly CAN customize the subject line, just as you can with the entire rest of the e-mail itself... PLUSE it is an auto responder, a database program, a sequential mailer and a whole bunch of other stuff as well. BUT what-ever works for you. Ryan may be out of town again, but my guess is you won’t find allot of real info using google or another search engine as it has been a private deal for the folks that know him or are referred to him. Anyway... good luck on your search. Dean <><

Dean,
I did find the info on Google. Although, Ryan doesn't have the mailer on his site, the page still exists and is still indexed by google. I see the advantages of Ryan's program, I'm just waiting for him to get back to me and test it out too. Edd
