Could anyone direct me to a dealer that sells the shattering glass stand for the bullet catch? ie... A pane of glass hung via a clip to a stand and it shatters "when" the bullet goes thru it? If no dealer, does anyone know if this gimmick is in print?
I'd be grateful for any help. Thanks! |

I am not sure of any dealers carrying such an item-though I am not saying there isn't any. You could also contact a special effects company near you as we in that trade have to deal with such things often. It can be dangerous though, if you use pyrotechnic devices such as trunnion guns or glass poppers and they require a certified FX tech to operate them. Naturally there's other, non-pyro methods available.

That's a glass breaking table, as in wine glass or the like...mantooth means a device that breaks sheet glass.

Paul Osborne's Illusion Systems Book Two has an effect in which a bullet is shot through a card that a girl hold in front of her, and a piece of glass behind her shatters. It is called "The Bullet Proof Girl" by Jack Dean, and it details the construction of the shattering glass, but it is a little hard to follow and I'm sure that many of the parts would be hard to track down seeing as though the book was published in 1982.
At the very least it's a start. Nick Fox |

Thanks everyone for taking the time to share...
I can't believe this would be so hard to track down... I was thinking it'd be a standard prop.... I guess not. If anyone else has any info... please let me know. Thanks! |

This is also a leftover from wild west shows with trick shooting. The pro to build one is the Tabman here on The Café. It is sometimes called a sharpshooter's mouse trap. He will know exactly what you want. It can be made to break glass cups or plates too. That is especially handy if you wanted to demonstrate the gun first.

Think this is what your looking for.
http://tilfordillusions.com/catchingBullet.html I emailed them about this a little while back and they said it was being perfected. May be worth emailing them again. Let me know what they say if you do. |
