Before knowing this item ... I thought about getting the Die-cipher 2 .
But after reading some posts here , I'm so interested to the roentgen box , but somethings just bothering me . The box looks like the trick "Tel-A-Vision" which the spectator could choose one of the picture on the cube ,then put the cube into the box , close the lid , and the magician put the box onto his head .....after a moment , he (the magician) can describe the picture of the cube. Does the Roentgen box use the similar concept or you don't even have to touch the box ? (especially putting the box onto your head....well I think it's quite stupid and strange ) If anything would expose the secret please feel free to pm me .... thank you !! |

You'll be doing yourself a very big favor by avoiding this crap. Stick with Color Vision, honestly!

The Roentgen Box is a cute "toy," but unsuitable for actual public performances.
But then again, pretty much all effects in this family suffer from the same flaw that they don't look like anything you would find in real life. A cube... in a box that just fits it... really? The only variation that I found even remotely plausible is placing a normal die in a film canister (which are becoming harder to find with the increasing popularity of digital cameras).

If you want to use presentational concepts / premises like that one, generally speaking, VIB cannot be beaten!
EDIT: VIB = Vision In Black
Then you'll rise right before my eyes, on wings that fill the sky, like a phoenix rising!

I do not agree that this is garbage. I just bought it half price so feel at that price it is worth not giving up on so soon. I tihnk most are disappointed in the quality of the plastic box. It might crack as soon as it is crushed.
The method does work. I only had it a week end and it works without opening the box in any way. It is not like color vision. The method is practical as turn ones head but the second step is the part that is a bit obvious as described. Philemon, now is the time to go to stores that develop film like Walmart, and ask to save the film cans. Yes you are correct. very hard to get and even a market for them on ebay. They are so useful and free for so long I never thought of saving them. I also have competition from teachers also snatching them up. My only thought is that if you are SITTING and they are standing it is possible it will work. I think for $12.50 it has some potential. I was not sure it would even work the first time I tried it and then when it did I smiled since the claims they make are true. Since you have to turn your head or back you can easily do the first part and the second part is the one that has to be done smooth . But lets face it, but any die in a box and it is very TOYish. |

The more I play with the box the more I feel it is not a fragile as it feels, especially with the die in it.
Also there are other ways than the suggested method to start the process. I still have not figured out the exact method to KNOW what the number is but am closer to an idea. |

I liked this idea the first time I saw it, but because of the odd appearance of the box, I've yet to figure out how to use it and make it plausible.
Perhaps if it was among various other items used from a travelling medium of the 1950's for seances. It would fit in with similar items found in Kreskin's ESP game or something along those lines. |

I really do not think the box is all that weird any more than a round brass box and brass die. You are fighting a loosing battle trying to rationalize either box.
I tired it the first time for a magician who owns Die-cipher. I did not know at first he had that version so it was curious to seem him twisting the die all around in the box. I made sure he examined everything and when he was done I made him do it again. Then I performed it as described and it actually worked and he was none the wiser to how it worked. What we might think is an obvious move, something I am still tyring to refine, worked just fine as it is. It was not obvious to him how it worked since I really sold hard that the box is what it is, just a box. and the die is what it is, jsut a big metal die. They can play with this box until the cows come home and will not figure it out. While die-cipher is maybe more practical, one could argue, given enough time, someone playing with it could figure out some of the the method, yes? |

Received Roentgen Box today.
Really surprised: it's something I would never have thought, even with "die and box" in my hands! Strange and ingenious: and even now, that I know the principle used, it's difficult for me to understand exactly how and why this happens... Beautiful toy/puzzle! |

I have a Roentgen Box. It took some experimenting to get the conditions right for it to work, but it does work although I won't be carrying it around. As mentioned there are several other tricks along this line that are far more reliable and easier to manage. I played with it, showed the wife, got her all bugged when she couldn't figure out how I did it, then put it back in it's packaging and put it away. Lubor Fiedler will go down in magic history as one of the great inventors and the Roentgen Box will be a collector's piece. I'll definitely get more for it than what I paid. It is definitely a clever little piece, impractical in the walk-around sense but clever all the same.
