Try going to antique shops, or coin or jewelry shops and ask to see their junk silver.
They should sell them to you based on metal weight. For example an old walking liberty coin that should go for about $3, the value of the silver contained in the coin. They aren't collector quality, so the coin shop should be glad to get rid of them. If you find a good selection of them, buy extras. You might even be able to haggle with them a little bit. That's where I got mine at any rate. Hope that helps.
I'm moving back to Vegas.....anyone there that can help me out in getting adjusted to the Sin City again!?!!?

I doubt you will find many old, soft, U.S. coins in Europe.
Either look for old worn local ones, or smooth down newer ones. I can't remember how to smooth them, but it has been covered before on the Café. |

You can also buy old silver coins and take them to a jewellery in order to get soft coins.
I have done that with Liberty coins and FRANKLIN. But you have to polish the border and the inside of the coins. It will be easier to palm six or seven coins (5 genuine coins). But you don't have to perform three fly with soft coins. It is important have a good patter I think and with this you have a misdirection. For exemple look at the Curtis Kam routine "beijing coins across". |

Go to your local coin shop and explain what you need. If you get a good connection with the owner, he could probably try to catch a bunch of worn out US coins for you when doing his "shopping".

If we are interested in real coin magic, how do we explain polished sillver discs? As a coin collector too, I have mixed feelings about destroying a coin that has survived 85-100+ years.. Eventually we either have to just come up with soft fake silver coins, destroy US history (or some other country's history), or learn new moves (or get better at old moves.....which is me)...... I read these threads and can find Morgans for $6-11 at ebay or local auctions and sand them down.....but if they don't look like regular or historical coins, what is the point...just get soft metal discs and coat them or sand them down... we eventually have to adapt or admit that our sleights are subect to specific objects (as well as skill dependent).... I realize I have to resolve my own conflict between my 2 hobbies, but there are so many effects out there that get you the effect you need for the moment, that I just don't understand why the sacrifrice of sanding or polishing our history is necessary...... but the effects are so pretty......

The difference is the correct amount of softening that makes the trick work, but doesn't turn the coins into polished disks.

Just a thought-
GET MORGAN DOLLARS. Unless your hands are VERY SMALL, you'll find Daryl's routine easier to do with bigger coins. (honest) Joe Skilton |

Yeah, I'd go with the Morgans too. Got myself a lovely set of coins with the expanded [ from todd lassen a couple of years back. They're lovely.

Online coin stores like THIS one are real happy to help and the prices are reasonable....
