Someone sent me a PM asking me to review the Magic from the Session booklet that I got from the Session Convention on Sunday. So, here goes.
This is a nicely produced 30 page black and white booklet containing some great card magic. Here is the promo for it from the website http://www.sessionconvention.com/book/ -------------- Suit You Sir by Andi Gladwin A spectator correctly divines the cards that are missing from a deck. The clever method used has plenty of other applications. Tyler Wilson's Dirty Stinkin' Ape in the Middle An ingenious sandwich routine using a novel concept. If Ferris Bueller were to do a sandwich trick, this would be it. Kostya Kimlat's Stardust Transposition and Cosmic Fusion A highly visual routine with two chosen cards that transpose and eventually fuse together. 6 detailed pages of description. Lee Asher's Flo A novel revelation of one or more cards based on the waterfall flourish. A great idea as you would expect from Lee. Jack Parker's 3 Stooges "Jack Parker's card stuff is ingenious" - Richard Kaufman. Within the context of an assembly routine, three spectators go through a series of magical tests before finally realising who the real magician is... Rob James' 6am Production A flashy and very visual all-at-once ace production that can be done for a large group. -------------- My favourite item is Jack Parker's 3 stooges. This is like Chad Long's Shuffling lesson although the effect is Macdonalds aces. The spectators make the aces vanish from their own packets! Awesome! And the trick is practically self-working. This is a great trick and I have already been doing it to everyone. I also liked Kostya Kimlat's routine. This is a beautifully visual 2 card transpo routine with an Anniversary Waltz type finish. This is 21st century card magic. I saw Rob James do his ace production at the convention. This is something that if you can do a one hand palm you can do immediately and it looks great. There are also something from Lee Asher that I don't think has been published before, a trick that Andi did in his lecture and a good idea (and very good presentation) for a sandwich routine from the very funny Tyler Wilson. This booklet is only £5.50 (or slightly more if you are outside of the UK) and I was told that there are very limited numbers left. The Session Convention was completely sold out and I expect that this booklet will be sold out soon too... don't miss out! 9 out of 10 - great value (3 stooges is worth the price alone!)

Nice review Aaron. For me, Kostyas is the best effect in the book. I have been performing this ever since I got home to friends and family, I have also used it in the Magic shop today to good reactions, and I hope soon to add it to my act.
Rob James 6am production is one of the best productions I have seen in a long time, and all day I have been constantly showing people, then showing them again and again. ITs so quick, striking and visual. I have all of Lees other collected works, and his Flo is something I don't remember seeing before, but as the book says, it is a knack thing, but it is a nice way to produce a card. I have to agree that 3 Stooges is very clever, and I have told Jack many times since that I like it, and is a very clever structured routine. Tylers routine is very funny, and quick and magical, the first time he did it, he caught me out, and the appearance of the card was very surprising, great little sandwhich that you could add as an Ambitious card move. Andi's routine was again, a very clever piece of thinking, and he caught quite a few people out with it at the convention All in all, I think this will be the Book of the year for 2006. You may not believe me, but I have found a routine from Kostya that looks like real magic, and I will use this. 10/10 |

I mailed Andi about this. He sent me a copy of the booklet which I received yesterday (thanks Andi!). It's a small pamphlet but with some great material. I'd already seen a video clip of Tyler's effect so was looking forward to that... and I wasn't disappointed.
Kostya's effect is *outstanding* especially for Valentine's Day magic! This is a *perfect* tablehopping effect for couples. Anyway, it cost just £5.50 including postage. It's on their site - http://www.sessionconvention.com John. |

Just purchased this thanks to Chris' recommendation and can't wait from what he has told me, he's usually right about these things. When he has a feeling like this, its best to go with it. I'll post again when I recieve it.
