You can never go wrong with balloon hats for girl, and classic swords for boys.

In my experience the five things kids ask for, are things you haven't made before But hats and cartoon figures never fail.

Quickies but goodies
For girls... - Princess wand with heart on top - 5 or 6 petal flower - Candy cane (or put 2 together for a giant twisted heart) For boys... - Laser gun - Cartoon snake (with 5" round eyes and optional tongue) - Octopus with 5" round eyes and curly legs (I know it's more than 2 balloons, but easy to make, draws attention, and kids like it) Mike |

I could not see the first Spiderman posted, some sites are in a format not compatible with my computer.
I must say that when I do something like Spiderman or any other character I want to be as close to the real deal as possible. The one I currently use is from Twist with Sam volume 3. I have altered it a little in that I use the print heads. It definitely uses amore balloons then Mark’s and probably takes at least twice as long (not for most line work situations). But its worth it for the tips that come in. |

Example: if it takes you 5 minutes to make and get a $5 tip converse that with making 3 of mine within 6 minutes and a savings of 30¢ from having imprints.... but that is totally up to you! Also mine can be made in most line stiuations.

Why not just give everyone a really crappy one balloon animal that all look the same and people still feel obligated to give you $2 and it takes less than a minute..
I guess we could all could go from 1. 8 balloon great creations. 2. Simple one balloon... To be frank with everyone I just did a party and stayed with making 8 balloon figures with no repeat design for all the kids.. (mostly Don Caldwell designs) So many family were so blown away the parents gave me a $400 tip!! (no joke) and I booked to more shows for more money then I ever charged.. Thanks Don Caldwell your balloons are amazing! Get the dvds.. do the balloons YOU WONT BE SORRY! |

I have to agree with Kevinr on the use of bigger sculptures. As for the question on if I would make more money if I made a two balloon version of spidey. I have booked three balloon gigs this summer purely due to that version of spidey.
Some situations there wouldn’t be the time however and I let the people that book me for these events know that the sculptures will be brought down a notch to three balloons max. |

For me I could not say a specific recipe had gotten me a gig. Most times I don't remember what I have made for people, I remember the feelings we created together. People like the improvisational way I create. I try not to do the same two things in a row. People respect that. Reason I was putting forth my Super hero figure was to show you can make a line quick variety. There is appoximately 4 bends and 4 twists with minimal artwork. Of Course .... when time permits bigger is better. And yes I have gotten $50 tips for hats before too. But is it really a $200 tip??? If you stayed over an extra hour didn't you just get paid? My apologies if I mis read that.

No worries Mark. I was just pointing the benefits of being able to do some really cool and impressive stuff. In one of the instances that I got booked due to the Spiderman the couple were talking amongst themselves (i was busking) and the dad said "we have to have him at her birthday, look at the Spiderman he did". Where I busk there are at least 3 other twisters that show up on the weekend. I’m probably there the least due to actually being booked. I have to find a way to make myself different, besides from being entertaining which I think I am I also create sculptures the others wouldn’t dream of.
I think we all agree that people need to spend the time necessary to be the best they can be. |
