Can hat coils be used over and over? Or, are they a one time use thing? Thank you.

They are a one shot deal at a nice price of about $1.00 to $1.95 depending where you buy them.
Another inexpensive way to do this is through mini-coils. Go to an office supply, like Office Max or Office Depot and get adding machine tapes. Go to a carpenter or wood shop which has a band saw. Cut each adding machine tape into smaller coils. They work the same, not as much paper per individual coil but a lot, and fit into more things and a lot cheaper.

Klamm Magic used to carry mylar coils that could be reused. He had a winding system you could purchase as an option. I'm not sure if he still sells them, but you could check his site. http://www.klamm-magic.com

Hat Coils are very neat production props. McBride on one of his videos performs the production out of a newspaper. Very visual and impressive stuff!

Dennis... Thanks for the tip on the hat coil. I didn't even think about that. Seems to me even though it would be smaller, you would get more for your money and like you said fit into more situations.

I have just started using these in one particular effect that I am adding to my show(s). Just a long wound up piece of paper, but what fun it can generate!

I saw Bob McAllister use one in a lecture at Abbotts in around 1994. I think he used a newspaper as well, and when it started to come out, he used a wand or cane to whip it out in large lasso type circles around him. I'd be interested in any help regarding what the effect is other than what I've just described. I thought it was wonderful when I saw it, but it is lost in my mind.
Also, what McBride video has this on it? Thanks for the help. Gician |

Check out Michael Lair's Silver Coil. Twenty five feet long, mylar, and says it's reusable. Daytona Magic sells it also.
