Tomorrow, I turn 71! It has been a great life for me... This morning, I took a trip down Memory Lane, looking at Eddie Fector's sites and ran into a lot of old friends, Eddie, Lou Gallo, Karl Norman Jay Marlboro, Joe Lamonica, and others, as well as lots of guests and celebrities who dropped in. I had no idea then what a privilege it was to be working there on a long term basis... Lucky me. Before, during and after that time I worked the old time sideshows, real 10 in 1's that starred the greatest Human Oddities alive. mostly at Coney Island, Mecca then...All my life, I've been in the places where the right things for me were happening... No great shakes on my part, just "Being There." It took me years to appreciate this. I gradually learned all the working acts from the best of that time... I learned how to process "pickled punks" real and bouncers, touch up banners, set up and tear down a top, lots of stagecraft, and other skills.
I have a beautiful wife, and in all those years my life has been leisurely, and never boring! I wish you all the same. Slim

The idea of a "Geezer's Club" here on the Café appeals to me... There are several of us post 60 characters who have lots to share with the "Elite." What are your thoughts?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Slim! I have one coming up in 48hrs. So we share the same sign huh. Oh what a blessing and horrid curse at the same time. Hehehe. But wouldn't have it any other way.
As for the post 60 characters, they have been THE MOST INVALUABLE source of guidance in my own act. Sure I've received great advice and a couple of tools from the younger crowd, but when you put the cards on the table, the ole' geezers have their names on most of what I've adopted. Let's say how it is huh.... Have a great one. |

We Be Geezers.......I'm in.
Happy Birthday Slim! Consider this your birthday card! Yes...my life has been one of fortunate accidents of 'being there' as well. Splendid mishaps of fate and curiosity filled so many moments with wonder and great laffs. It's all still in force with so many wonderful reasons to wake up everyday it's dazzling. Ain't life grand? As Bugs Bunny sang to me one golden afternoon... "Oh Carrotts are devine you get a dozen for a dime...it's Maaaaaagic." The 'little things' just keep on comin'! Doug (64 in April) Higley

Thanks Doug... Something to consider about a Geezer's Club...Geezer's have been around long enough to have experienced several different disciplines of life, and learned many different things with some commonality. We are seldom dumber or smarter than others, but what makes us unique is perspective... I call on others to join...
Hopefully, we can be helpful... Slim

Hey Slim, I'm a charter member of the Geezer's Club! I've failed at more things than most people have tried (or dreamed of trying!)!
