Hi,
currently I'm working on a coins-to-pocket (Sankey version) which uses the himbervanish as a fake count (two for three). Any hints on this knacky move or is it just "practice practise"? Besides any info of the origin of the hv would be nice. Thanks in advance Dennis |

Just play around with holding it and dropping it in different ways, you will start to get a feel for it after a while.

I personally found a very very light curling of the fingers and dropping between the outermost 2 joints of my fingers had better results than from a tightly held fist and dropped over the inner-most 2 joints....
Hope it makes sense... try loosening or tightening hand grip and placement of drop to find what works for you... |

I'd like to add that, I've found that if the coins are large it is much easier to to the Himber vanish. At least if you try to make the 2 for 3 count, sound plausible.
I'm currently practicing No Jacket Required too... ;-) PM me if you'd like to discuss the details. Jim

One tip I would pass on is to try to make the motion as smooth as possible so that after the vanish your hand drops to your side in one natural motion.
I learned how to do this move properly off Bobby Bernard here in the UK....Himber had shown the move to Bobby with both hands close together before and after the vanish. Bobby adapted the move to look more natural and that is the move we all know today. Just a bit of magic history for you! Bobby does the himber with multiple coins as well as just the one dropping...cool if you need to vanish a few coins from your hand |

I abandonedt the move a long time ago as they are not effective in very noisy environments. I use a Retention Click Pass. It's a good move though. It just takes practice. Put some time into it and I'm sure you'll get the hang of it..i did.

On the new 2 vol. DVD set, NEW YORK COIN MAGIC SEMINAR VOL 1 - COINS ACROSS, there are two false counts that are more effective and much easier, the ROPS Discrepancy Count, and the Pseudo Himber COunt ( which also looks the same as the Himber count, but is secure, technically easier, and has no changing of hand motion - all weaknesses in the Himber Count).
S.E.M. (The Sun, the Moon, and the Earth) is a sun and moon routine unlike any other. Limited to 100 sets, here is the promo:

Any other source for these? I've asked around and unfortunately the DVD is nowhere to be found in Denmark

Strange as it may seem [or maybe not!], I missed the instruction that the second coin does one rotation as it falls - I had been simply pushing the coin over the fingers to fall straight down. Once I twigged to the rotation, the whole thing just clicked [no pun intended]. Just a note that attention to detail can make all the difference!

Do you mean one FULL revolution or a half?

This is a wonderful move but very knacky indeed. I have been afraid to try it out in front of people for this reason.
Hey Michael, Is the DVD out yet? If so, where can we get it? Thanks, -Buddy |

Jim,
Sorry, half revolution [if it starts heads up it flips on the way down and ends tails up.] I had naturally tossed the first coin down without a rotation, and it seemd best to mirror that with the second coin. Now I purposely rotate the first coin by half a revolution, and the second coin seems much easier to deal with... |

4 Coins to Pocket is one of my favorite effects. My version does not use the Himber/Sankey False Count. It's described in detail in chapter 16 of my book 21st Century Coin Mechanics. I teach two original false counts, one using the Flying Changeover Palm and a second called the Flying False Count. I prefer the Flying Changeover Palm Count for this effect. This is not an easy routine but the angles are excellent and you start and end with four ungaffed silver dollars.

There is a version of the 2 for 3 Himber Click Pass thingy on my Basic Coin Magic CD. It eliminates the change of method for the third coin. Search in the reviews section for my name and you'll find a review of it...(there's also a video clip at the link below - change the deals bit for shop and follow the links).
Take care, Ian |

Ok, where can I learn about the himbervanish or other false counts for coins?
I have Bobo, and Snakey's Revolutionary coin, but didn't see this listed in the contents. I did find one false count in DesTroyers: Count-er Point, is it similar to the one being discussed? Thanks John

John,
It's certainly on the Sankey DVD - check "No Jacket Required". |

The Himber Vanish is described in "Richard Himber The Man and His Magic" by Ed Levy (1980) under the title "Versatile Coin Move". Unfortunately the text and drawings poorly explain the move. Sankey has the best explantion of it on his Rev. Coin Magic Video.
